well if the galatic empire could even produce the amount of soldiers the ig have for 1 world then id be suprised and imperial guard firepower would rip through anything the GE have anyway shields or no solid shot beats laser against armor unless u have a las cannon..IG WIN
Cloning is all the Galactic Empire could do. Even then...the Stormtroopers have no experience with a massive amount of battles. They would stand no chance. Unless Grand Admiral Thrawn was in charge.
Even then he'd be owned by say lord solar macharius, or any of the truly great generals.
I have seen the way the Stormtroopers shoot. No contest here.
Well on the tabletop a guardsman can miss a tank standing 6 away from him and miss if you roll low enough...
But at least guardsmen can shoot straight.

I think Storm troopers have somewhat stronger guns (IG lasgun's profile tells us that it isn't anymore effective than RL assault rifle) But IG outnumber the bastards 1000:1 at minimum.
But how about they go against the IG storm troopers?

strom troops will win in the case of being backed up by a couple small cruiser in low orbit just like the opining scene of sw:republic commando
thats basically their only chance tho, just to make it fair we'll give the Storm Troopers a couple cruisers

Aw, now thats unfair. Imperial navy cruisers have far more firepower than almost any star wars ship
IG because unlike storm troopers they actually get **** done.

Stormtroopers have great aim in fluff, characters had god damned plot armor >.<
same could be said of Cadians, or any guard for that matter.
Its just unfortunately for the Guard, they're enemies are 8ft tall superhumans with tank armor, like 500 lb angry gorillas, or some-other crazy chit
If you wanted to say Empire's armada vs. Imperium fleets, I don't think many Imperium ships are close to a SSD in size... not sure about this, but 40k ships seemed relativly small to me.
I don't know some of the ships 40k seems titanic and the armament some of the ship packs are devastating in ship-to-ship combat (like the lances and nova cannons).
An emperor class battlecruiser is 6 km long. Some of the relic ships from before the heresy are near 20. And star wars ships are quite small on average. Sure you get the big ones, like the executot ssd, but imperial ships far exceed their range and, for the most part, firepower. Plus imperial fleets can be much larger. A crusade fleet could compose thousands of warships.
plus lance cannon is insanely powerful. Much more so than 100 turbo-lasers
Stormtroopers shoot like blind people. Because the ugly helmets, i guess.
One baneblade could destroy any AT-AT the Empire has. Just shooting on the legs and driving around them. It would be like a woodcutter/lumberjack in a forest.
And don´t forget the EXTERMINATUS!
I'm pretty sure StormTroopers would win.
Star Wars ships >>>>>>>>>>> Warhammer ships. It'd be a pretty nice contest but those Turbo Lasers can be used to wipe out medium sized civiliztions without the need of excessive "Exterminus" or having to take months bombarding with a giant 40k fleet.
Besides, as people said before, Stormtroopers and Darktroopers are pretty darn good elite troops. However plot armor wins all!

Pfft. A single macro cannon shell, the size of office blocks, from an imperial fleet glasses a continent.
Each ship has like 5 per broadside and novacannons are akin to letting off a sun. The combined lances of an entire fleet can drill to planets cores. A pic on this gallery had batleships at 15 kliks long.
Srsly, the scale of 40k Imperial ships is astounding.
