This group is for everyone who like tanks, sci-fi tanks, real tanks, funny tanks, you can put here tank mods, tank maps, simply everything with straps, armor and gun :D
No mate, this division fought in the 2008 Russo Georgian War. And was disbanded in 2009 (a year later) in the military reform.
Those aren't T-55's, they're T-62's. The division was still equipped with T-62's in the war (as shown in the image) but now they've been replaced by more modern tanks. Most of the T-62's have been placed into storage or reserve.
I didn't down vote you, just corrected. The differences between the two tanks are quite noticeable especially the gun and turret.

2008 South Ossetia was initially fought with local assets. Being primarily reservist style gear (Russia never assumed a threat through Georgia) such as T-62s meant they saw a bit of action. They actually managed to knock out some Georgian T-72Bs as well.
All T-62s have since been with withdrawn from service, especially with the modernising of the Southern Military District where they were operated the most, as NationalGuard noted.
Only 400 of those are T-90s, but knowing how Russia works I doubt the majority of those 10-15 thousand tanks are in a remotely good condition. Not even speaking of of the ones in "reserves" which are probably rotting away in some storage area. So the T-90s, 80s and (somewhere in the future) Armatas are the ones to worry about.
armatas can be mass produced "relatively cheaply when compared to other modern tanks" like hot cakes due to their modular design so yea thats why. But with that said like a majority of modern tanks the armata is still not combat proven so its combat effectiveness is logically still debatable.
perhaps of the Russian MOD sent some to Syria to face off against ISIS tanks then maybe we could get some valuable data about it in the field tho I very much doubt the Russians want to get bogged down in a ground war as they still remember the disaster of Afghanistan and how the US baited them into a quagmire to get revenge for Vietnam back then ... sigh all these dam proxy wars & geo political BS getting in the way of a real international coalition to eliminate terror groups like ISIS and al Nussra Front is beyond remedial IMHO >_>
It was just a figure of speech, so far T-90s and 80s are the most effective Russian tanks, when Armata appears in sizeable numbers it will be too. I just figured most people here are from Western countries so not exactly on friendly footing with the Russian leadership and all.
1st: Wasn't this division disbanded in the 2008 reform?
2nd: Is Russia still operating T-55s? WTF??

Oh, honestly I can't tell the difference between T-55s and T-62s. Why downvote, eh?

AFAIK Russian army has a 10 to 15 thousand active tanks and another 25 thousand in reserves. As one might guess not all are T-90 and T-14 =)

"Armatas are the ones to worry about. "
What's there to worry about?
