Soviet version of Walter Christi's fast tank prototypes actually ... The prototypes were originally sold to Poland but Christie screwed them over by taking the money and they selling the same tanks to the NKVD -_-

Perfect example of why you don't ever trust and business dealings with American companies even to this very day ...

>American guy invents revolutionary tank suspension

Reaction: "USA EVOL SOVIET GOOD"

Story about Poland is ********, Christie returned the money to them, and the Poles didn't give anything to the NKVD, especially because the NKVD didn't even exist in 1929-30, but also because the Soviet Union was last place where they would send weapon plans.

It's the OGPU which contacted Christie personally about his tank, and bought two from him using a front company. Which were later made into BTs and T-34s. And if anything, that is another exaple of the Soviet tactic of reverse-engineering Western military tech, which China has now inherited to apply to Russia in an ironic turn of events.

@ Phenixtri - Remember when Remington stole Mauser's original bolt-action design and named it after himself to avoid licence payments? Also the "American rocket program"? All the fun facts in history right? x)

indeed or how both the USSR and USA accused each other of stealing jet designs with the Sabre F-86 & Mig-15 debate? xD Both were copies of the Nazi Focke Wulf Ta-183 XD

Well..an engine for MiG-15 was actually sold to Soviets. Guess by who? British. Rolls-Royce to be correct. I remember it caused Americans flipping **** over it. But money solve everything.

@TypicalRussianIvan - I did some research on the subject and it appears that the Brits had running jet engine in 1942. Doesn't make any sense to have a jet engine for the rest of the war and don't apply it for any practical use. Unless of course the engine was useless shite. Which may or may not explain why they sold it to the Soviets.

The MiG 15 engine is actually one of the most famous Soviet reverse-engineering examples - right before the cold war the British labour goverment sent a few engines to the Soviet Union, they were copied, and were exactly what they needed for the MiG 15.

Here you can read more:

This thing is the most awesome example however:

EDIT: And yeah, later the Brits wanted some money compensation, as usual/expected got none from the Soviets.

The question remains unanswered. Why wouldn't the Brits put it to use if they had it running in 42"?

The one they gave to the Soviet Union? They didn't have it running in 42', but in late 44', and it was actually used in lots of planes, including the US Navy's first carrier-based jet fighter. So at that time it was top-of-the-line, though progress was of course fast back then.

You can read more about it here:

I was talking about this one En.wikipedia.org No one ever speaks of Allies' jets. I wonder why.

Well, probably because they didn't devote that many resources to it, and didn't make so many revolutionary projects (most of which luckily weren't completed) in such a short time as Nazi Germany did. The UK did have the most advanced jet fighter program among the Allies though, and was the only Allied country to introduce a jet fighter in sufficient numbers during WW2 (Gloster Meteor), though the US produced their first jets shortly after as well. But their efforts simply didn't have a huge impact on the war effort, and neither did the German jets. After the war everyone got the know-how from German engineers anyway, including the Soviets who were seriously lagging behind in jet technology.
