One of my favourite characters, Level-headed, an excellent mentor and unswerving in his practice of the Jedi doctrine.
He clearly adheres to Jedi tenets but he tends to bend the rules now and then. He seeks answers from the living force. And he attempts to find balance. "Violence sows the seeds of the dark side. Unchecked, the Jedi could become that which we fight against."

By Jedi doctrine, I wasn't referring to the teachings and instructions of the Jedi order at the time.
Perhaps doctrine is the wrong word, I merely meant to convey something akin to what you articulated so eloquently.
Jedi posses some reverent principles that are based on a rationally elaborated set of values.
On a side note, they were given permission to exercise military power that turned them into warriors that fight for peace, which is a contradiction and a contrariness to Jedi beliefs.
