I honestly think a raw strength was bestowed upon him. He was strong enough to lift heavy ships and rocks just as Mary Sue in sequels. I'm not here to defend the main character of Sequels, but in both cases rage is nearly boundless and anger is unfocused making those characters really strong. Mary Sue is unpredictable and potent in I and II episodes making her raw, bloodline power somewhat believable. The III installment makes no sense as they reshaped Rey's character into some sort of an Avatar(last air bender) and they lost me there a little.
