Description
This is primarily directed at my fellow Yanks in this group...
Should the circumcision of minors be legal? Should it be legal in general?
What do you feel about the consent and decision making of the process?
Do you feel uncomfortable talking about it? Why?
Where do "religious rights" come into play here?
Make sure to do some research first (as always). I want people to directly reference what studies and sources they're using to insure the best possible quality of the debate.
(Note: I'm aware the picture is loaded, I know that this is practiced outside the Jewish in the US)

To be honest, the only practical reason for a circumcision would be a medical one, such as excess skin. I don't see any other reason for it. I don't particularly consider religious reasons to be practical.
What do you mean by excess skin? It's part of the organ.
He probably means phimosis or for hygiene.
That's just it. The hygiene argument is invalid- all it takes is for the child to be educated. The largest problem was that parents were instructed to pull the foreskin back on their children when washing- that actually causes infection. Leaving it on the child will not- it retracts by itself. We don't cut vaginas for hygiene- WE CAN, but we don't, because we know it's destructive.
The same goes for circumcision.
The cancer argument...- more people die annually of circumcision operations performed on infants than the percentage of those who die of penile cancer.

I had problems because of phimosis so I had a decision to make when I was about 15 or so. So I think its fine if you do it for medical reasons, but in no other case. Thats my opinion.
My point exactly.
I honestly don't care what your religion says. If someone wants to get part of their ***** cut off as an adult, so be it. Parents making that decision for a baby is insane.
