Though personally, I will believe it when I see the remains of that bird.

A F-117 was downed over Yugoslavia in the 90's using old modified SAM seeker-heads, so using new technology, it would not be too surprising to see Syria down a Raptor. Just remember, anything that goes up can also be shot down.

While what you say is a fact I'm still not sure it actually happened. F-22 is a supermaneuverable jet compare to F-117 relatively sluggish F-117. And last time I checked, Syria didn't received the S-400. And you have to have extremely skilled operators if you want to take down a nimble object like the F-22 anything other than S-400 (That includes early S-300 models). So like I said, it's possible, but doubtful.

nimble, pseudo stealthy "when compared to dedicated stealth craft", and also highly costly and rather unreliable F-22 mind you all >>

F-22 Raptor, probably not. Those birds are so expensive (and pretty impractical too) that using one for reconnaissance would be plain stupid. Four Tomahawks? Wouldn't really doubt that, Pantsir's can deal with those things without breaking sweat.

Remember, although Russia has stated they will not get involved if the US attacks Syria they never said anything about not giving the Syrian's enough equipment to give the US a run for it's money. Besides, they are probably privy to Russian missile launch detection and satellite intel for the entire Mediterranean.

Besides, if America has launched ballistic missiles or violated Syrian airspace that is an obvious act of aggression, which would technically mean the Syrians and the US should be killing each other right about now.

The US will be set to lose a lot of aircraft if the Syrians are in possession of S-300s or S-400s, depending on how strategical the Syrians are with them. America hasn't faced that sought of technology (on par with their own) since the Vietnam War, so this could be really quite interesting.

Part of me wonders If current US economy can really sustain a prolonged war with Syria. Their military (Specifically air defense and to an extent, air force) is no joke, even after the 2 year long war.

And if by any chance (Highly unlikely) Iran decides to to lend a hand...

Dont forget about Russians assets in the area its like their version of S Korea and Russians never take hits without retaliating.

I think wars are the only things that ARE actually sustaining the US economy currently. But to be brutally honest I think this is more than just a "regime change" (not that American occupation of any Middle Eastern country has ever been about "regime change") I think this a final effort to save a faltering economy.
If Iran lent a hand then Israel would be very much involved, and those two are pretty much on level ground, so the fight would take Iran out of the picture until the war was won/lost, which again, would leave Syria on its own.

I think there's probably more chance of Russia and/or China stepping in than Iran. (Although Russia has officially stated that a war with the US isn't particularly in their best interests at this time.)
Give it another 5-10 years, then try 'Murica, we'll see what the Motherland thinks then eh?

Russia will do everything possible for Syria without entering in full blown war. Syria isn't a toy of Russia's, she's an ally. And when people mess with Russia's allies, someone is going to pay.

I'm guessing the French frigate Chevalier Paul is going to Russians target of choice.

Wouldn't it be US carrier groups first?
I thought they were pretty much top priority first strikes.

russia, with all due respect will not retaliate because it'll lead to ww3,putin knows that thats why he's threatning-to scare off everyone, thats what assad does too.
assad is near powerless to stop a US attack on him and he definatly knows it and no it wont be a prolonged war they'll just fire a few hundred missiles at syrian military targets and have done with it

Given the fact Syria has aprox. 38 battalion's of Pantsir S-1 along with other AA system that can shoot them down, that ain't going to create much effect.

No, Russia does/will not get involved if the US "intervenes" in Syria, but like I said above, they will help Syria to their best capacity. That means up to date gear that could slow the US down to an absolute crawl.

I really wish Putin would just say, "Hey 'Murica, if you invade Syria, I'm going to defend them tooth and nail."
And that'd be it. Game over. The US couldn't risk going to war with Russia and her allies, especially since America only has France (lol) backing them now.

Doubt this is true, I don't think the U.S would even try to risk F-22s in low-level conflicts

That's one of the reasons why we still have F-15/16's.
