Can't even fire its own gun and EOTS is obsolete. And the Marines want IOC next year?
In future block updates. The only thing they can do is use the space to give the GAU-22 more ammo in place of EOTS and use pods like the rest of the Fighter fleet.
I'm honestly starting to think that the F-35 is a ruse, there is no way anyone can be that stupid.
Its only purpose is to send a message: "We are stupid, our greed is going to destroy us, we are vulnerable." With the objective to make US enemies become overconfident and commit stupid mistakes in an eventual war.
Then, the US is just going to come up with a F-XX out of nowhere and take advantage of their enemies' overconfidence.
Although I hope I'm wrong, I hope they are the ones being overconfident, believing they are invincible, you can't just rule out a plausible option.
After all, the first casualty of war is the truth.
And ironically im betting the Russian pilots are wondering in their heads "WTF is the American military brass drinking/smoking??"
IMHO its the khool-aid brand of uber 'murica' patriotism for the lower officer ranks while the upper echelon on the military + their corporate contractor counterparts in all likelihood only think about more ways to boost defense spending so they can get away with more black budget fraud IE stealing billions for their own personal gain.
The F-15 Eagle is older than both the F-16 and the F-18, yet the US is taking development of the F-15 Silent Eagle, still an excellent plane.
Honestly I'm in a bit of a love/hate relationship with the F-35 JSF, it has some nice features but the US is better off upgrading existing planes or continuing development of the F-22.
"What happened to the good old wire/mechanical trigger?"
Well over the decades, as military aircraft have become more advanced; they've become more complicated as a side effect. It's also because more and more aircraft nowadays can engage targets that are beyond visual range.

Wishful thinking doesn't make it so.
Yeah saw this.
Wunderwaffe is right. Remember this is the aircraft that is going to replace the A-10, yeah, the CAS aircraft that was built around its GUN!
It's also replacing the F/A-18 , and the F-16s (of every block).
It's like watching US air power play Russian roulette.

Ehh, Russians have their own problems to worry about.
the a-10 was too slow to out maneuver handheld & other mounted sams & every nation has a damn CIWS so it couldn't strafe efficiently with it's GAU-8
the f-18s & 16 were just simply too old just to put new equipment on them & jack up the price even farther.
