"Z Warrior Chronicles" is an independent project being worked on by Xatoku based off of the popular Dragonball Z franchise by Akira Toriyama. This project has been going since early April 2011, and has gone through many revisions along the way, but the story elements are now being worked on and progress is booming. The aim of this project is to emulate the Dragonball Z world in an Action/RPG type scenario, and tell the story of the Z Fighters as best it can. The gameplay is best described as a combination of Legacy of Goku 2 & Dragonball Z Sagas on the GBA & PS2 respectively, along with a ton of Anime inspired gameplay elements as well. Production is naturally at a slow but steady pace due to the development team being only me, but I've invested all of my free time into this project and have no intention on stopping any time soon.

Report RSS Journal #16: Saving Implemented

Finally got the Xml files working properly so we can have individual character stats and more!

Posted by on

Just a quick update.

I got the .xml files working in my favour so those times of Goku & Piccolo sharing stats is long gone. Everyone has their own individual stats, and with that comes the saving of a lot of other things too. I had to get this in-game now because if I didn't save the necessary flags for story progression then you'd keep on replaying the same stuff. So now if I finish a segment of the story, I can knock it off the list, turn the game off, turn it back on and continue where I left off. Great stuff.

I'm going to be a sick masochist to you guys though, because you'll have to save. I could easily have it update your stats and whatnot as you level - no problem. But we are emulating LoG2 here (sort of), so if you want to save you'll have to do it at the check-plates.

It's not that bad, don't worry. That just means you have to be focusing on that sort of stuff. I miss those old gaming days where your time could be wasted, but you didn't care because the game was so awesome that replaying those levels is somewhat of a blessing. I'm confident that ZWC will be able to meet that standard, and I'm sure you'll agree when the builds starting getting denser.

That's pretty much it for this week. I've been working very hard on this so please drop some comments/suggestions as always to keep my brain going when I can't. I'm really digging the cutscene setup I have going, as it's a great combination of cinematic and consistent storytelling. So don't expect the cutscenes interrupting the gameplay, but more so blending in with it. Plus that in conjunction with the new maps looks just phenomenal. Things are definitely looking good right about now.

P.S: I may not have exactly encrypted the .xml files yet, so you may or may not be able to maybe tweak with the flags and maybe or maybe not make yourself ridiculous levels with ridiculous stats. Of course, out of respect, none of you would do that... right?

Saving is really important for story so well done on that, unless people want to return to the old days where we used passwords to start new missions.

I think you should use autosave,or at least add it as a option, cuz lot of people dont like that kind of saving(You can count me in that cathegory too). The only game I didnt care about saving was naruto ultimate ninja 5 for ps2 which was very interesting.Dragonball games on the other side most people know them all cuz anime finished and there is a lot of dragonball games and they tell always the same story.(good story(unknown)---->good game, interesting mode(maybe some mini games)----->good game)...
Good luck :)
