In exciting news for everyone, the next instalment in the always awesome XCOM series has strong modding support planned as a key feature. This information comes from an interview with creative director Jake Solomon and art director Greg Foertsch on IGN which was reported by RPS.
Some of the key quotes included "Games that are systems-based, games that people can replay again and again – like Skyrim and GTA – they’re rooted in systems. And when people can replay a game again and again, then they want the ability to change the way it plays. And that’s why mods are huge on all of those. Obviously, games like Civ and XCOM are rooted in systems".
... and "If you want to make a completely static level, you can. If you want to make a basically completely procedural level – which is basically what our levels are in the game right now, that’s 100% doable … There’s really no limit – you can do whatever you want. You could literally make an Enemy Unknown map".
With access to the tools they used to make the game and even the gameplay source, editor, and assets - we are excited to see what you the modders come up with when this releases in November, 2015. If you are thinking of making a mod for XCOM 2, submissions are open now.
Hell yeah!
This is going to be epic.
