Unreal Tournament 2003 is the sequel to 1999's multiple 'Game of the Year' award winner. It uses the very latest Unreal Engine technology - where graphics, sound and gameplay are taken beyond the bleeding edge. Unreal Tournament 2003 is a lightning-fast, no-holds-barred sport of the future, where warriors face off like the Gladiators of ancient Rome to determine the ultimate combatant. Super human reflexes, awesome weapons and the skill to use them effectively are what separate the good from the bad, the living from the dead, the victor from vanquished. Already this game is causing a stir with many mod authors turning to it in the quest to create a 'next generation' modification, by utilising this brilliant game engine. Whilst not much can be said many existing UT mods are said to be ported over so already this game looks like it is going to be a ripper - modification wise of course!

ModDB - Please state your name and rank at the mod in question for the court... uh inverviewing panel

FrieChamp - I won't tell you anything before I have called my lawyer... Seriously, I am the project-leader of the UT2003 modification "Bullet-Proof". I founded the project, care about promotion, team managment and I plan to contribute a couple of maps to the MOD.

ModDB - When was the idea of Bullet Proof first envisioned?

FrieChamp - The idea came up at the beginning of this year but I thought of developing a UT2003 MOD even before the game was released. I tried to find a concept which is innovative, exciting and enjoyable. Since the "Unreal" games are "unrealistic" and there are enough other sci-fi games I knew the MOD has to be somewhat "realistic", I also had enough of Counter-Terrorism modifications (*cough*) and because I love action-orientated games, mods and movies I decided to make an intensive, action-packed mod which however still focuses on teamplay and is different than other present mods. The features UT2003 offers for mod-developers, like vehicles (more on that later) also played an important role, but that's pretty much how I ended up with that thing I use to call ""Bullet-Proof2003" these days :)

ModDB - When is it based (time period) and what is the storyline?

FrieChamp - The mod takes place in our present world, in some north-american city. One major enterprise in the city is "Mac Ewan Inc." In the past, the corporation used to control the entire crime scene of the city, therefore it is mostly known as "Mac Ewan Syndicate". Unfortunately the police can't find any evidence to make a conviction of the big guys and rivals were mostly smashed by the syndicate, until several small, asian, criminal factions fused and decided to take over the city together. The fusion is called "Akimoto Triad", named by its leader, a former Yakuza member. Today both professional crime organisations fight each other in various locations for the control over the city.

ModDB - What gamemodes will be featured in "Bullet-Proof"?

FrieChamp - BP focuses on "Team Deathmatch". 2 teams try to eliminate each other, the round ends when all members of one team are dead. Nothing new there, but we intend to add a second gamemode called "Infiltration", where one team has to capture a certain object and the opponent team tries to defend it.

ModDB - So your using the Unreal Tournament 2003 engine, you state on your webpage Bullet-Proof2003.com that you wish to use the engine to it's full potential. What if any new technologies and or gameplays will be introduced by your team?

FrieChamp - The "Unreal" engine itself and the tools which Epic gave the community are rather powerful. Our models and maps will definately fit up to the detail standards of UT2003. We will also make heavy use of the vehicles code and the karma engine. BP will feature several cars and motorbikes and we will edit the vehicle code to our needs, to create a realistic feeling while driving. The vehicles will be able to be used for transporting but also for attacks, since we plan to realize the ability of passengers to shoot out of the vehicle. Another addition will be a helicopter which can be placed in the map, which both teams can make use of. We will also impliment a big stunt system which will be very easy to handle. It will include all kinds of dives, slides and flips. The teamplay aspect is very important to me so we will add various methods to support teamplay in the MOD. That's already quite a bunch of new stuff and this is certainly not all ;)

ModDB - Your models are going well, I have seen a few of them. What weapons can we expect to see models of before the release?

FrieChamp - The BP arsenal will feature a large range of weapons. Pistols, Sub-machineguns, Assault-, Sniper-Rifles but also melee weapons and explosives like molotov cocktails and a LAW rocket launcher which will perfectly suit for destroying hostile vehicles. We intend to have several akimbo weapons, so I am sure all action-fanatics will enjoy the mod.

ModDB - Who is working on Bullet-Proof beside you? Are there any positions left in the team?

FrieChamp - The BP team is a small, talented bunch of guys who enjoy developing mods and try to achieve the best possible results. We could need some support in various departments, we especially need a skilled texture-artist helping us out with textures. Whoever is interested in joining the project should check out our site and drop me a mail.

ModDB - Any date for a beta testing release of evan a public release yet?

FrieChamp - Nope sorry, we will call up for beta-testers when it's time and when we actually need them. As soon as BP approaches towards its first release we will let the public know.
