Devlog #8 - The History of Theseus news

Hello everyone!

Today we will show you the history of our little hero, Theseus, and what happened in Crete, on his past!

Theseus was the son of Aegeus and Aethra and was considered the greatest Athenian hero and we will know why.

At that time, in Crete, there was a king named Minos that had many children. One of his sons, Androgeus, went to Athens, to participate in the Panathenaic Games, the biggest athletic competitions festival of Greece. There, he was assassinated and Minos, due to the death of his son, obligated people of Athens to send, every nine years, fourteen young men and women to Crete to be devoured by the half-bull half-man creature that lairs in a Labyrinth under the palace, known as the Minotaur.

Theseus, always in search of glory, volunteered himself to go to the Labyrinth to defeat the Minotaur and end the sacrifices of the children.

Ariadne, the daughter of King Minos, convinced Daedalus, the creator of the maze, to tell her the secret of it. She helped Theseus on his quest, giving him a ball of thread, created by Daedalus, that allowed Theseus to walk with a reference inside the maze. He tied the thread on his ankle and every time he walked it marked his previous path.

When Theseus reached the Minotaur, the beast was easily defeated and the Athenian hero exited the maze by following the thread he left behind.

In our game he decided to do not put the focus on the narrative and instead the hero is a silly adaptation with a more playful look. We also do not intend to add the thread to the game since it would create a cluster of information on the map and make it more confusing to the player.

During this past week, we made some adjustments to our prototype, adding new items that the only purpose is the aesthetic of the overall labyrinth.
