This building is a utility that allows evil races to research arcane magic. BY being a utility, it can never be permanently destroyed.

I don't get it, do you mean that evil Heroes can learn Arcane sphere spells by converting this building? Or that it offers certain upgrades that boost spellcasters?

Nonetheless, as an idea it seems quite interesting! BTW, as the Arcane sphere has been removed from many classes, I have considered an Archmage like class that includes Chaos, Arcane and Illusion, named the Trickster. They will be mostly supporting spellcasters, particularly useful with large armies, but too frail to survive in combat or against extremely offensive spellcaster heroes.

In 0.8.6, we introduced some researches that temporary taught your hero spells from specific spheres. This was an expanded idea from the original game's "Spell Research" and "Arcane Research" which did the same but for a random sphere.

However, those 2 researches were then removed (well, they still existed but were never accessible) and you could only get a hold of the sphere specific researches. But this new utility brings back "Arcane Research" where upon completion your hero receives +2 in a random spell sphere.

These spells are only for the current battle. After the battle is over, you lose all those spells. Also, the research is available depending on the race you are playing with and NOT your hero's race. So you could have an Undead Deathknight but if you happen to be leading Fey in that battle, you won't be able to use this utility. This building is meant to be the counterpart to the Healing Fountain that allowed only good races to use it.

Oh I see, like the Library researches avilable to the Undead and the Empire! I always liked tinkering around with these researches, thought I ended up with things such as an "Empire Assassin" that knows some Divination and some Poison :P

Will something similar be available to good races? Also does proficiency alignement play any role (e.g an Undead Deathknight investing in.. Good and Altruistic)?

Currently only the race you are leading at that time has any influence on things like this. But we do want to flesh out the perk system some more in the future, especially since... on second thoughts - I'll mention that later :p
