The Reactor provides energy for ship modules and weapons;
The Armor can Protect your spaceship in combat.
The CargoHold can hold your cargo,witch is important in trade or transport.
The Weapon Slot,you can install weapon on it.
The Shield System protect ship structure,Without a shield your spacecraft can be easily destroyed by WarShips.
The Reaction Engine provides power to the spacecraft.
... There are over 20 Modules you can install on your ship. And everyone of them has it own feature.At same time,they also need energy to run...

Also notice that each module can be destroyed separately, which requires special attention in the Combat.
