Slime Herder is a student project with the goal of gaining experience developing and marketing a game in a real commercial space. After about 10 weeks of planning and development the game is live on the Google Play Store! This post will cover the features that made it into the final release and post launch update.

Curtis Slime Sprites 6

Over the course of 2 stages and 30 levels a player will learn how to manipulate 3 types of slimes and as well as using fans, trapdoors and spike traps to help their slimes get to safety. When a slime is tapped they change between two movement states allowing them to traverse and interact quite differently. Green slime are able to crawl along surfaces, up walls and on ceilings. Red slimes act as trampolines and launch other slimes a large distance and blue slimes will jump up and down on the spot but higher than normal.

Stage 1 focuses on the slimes and how each type interacts with each other. Various combinations of slimes are presented to the player in various level layouts to ensure that they are able to gain the skills necessary to take on more complex and interesting scenarios. I needed to make sure that the player was able to understand each slime type, interact with multiple slimes and how they interact in combination.

Stage 2 adds in mechanisms to the levels bring a new layer of complexity now that the player is comfortable interacting with slimes and avoiding spikes. Similar to stage one each new element is introduced gradually sometimes putting a twist on familiar levels from stage 1.

If you have the spare time and an android device we'd love for you to try out the game. Any and all feedback is appreciated.

Lastly a quick thanks to everyone that was involved in the project whether it be writing code, making pretty assets or testing levels.
