It is the dawn of the 22nd century, and the conquest of space has been monopolized by a handful of hugely ambitious mega-corporations. A delicate and vulnerable balance is maintained, but now, at the very edge of the solar system, a discovery has been made which will tip the scales forever — and send one ship and crew on an epic interstellar odyssey.

Come on people. It' ain't that complicated if you understand how it works. I know it is hard to figure out at the first time, but after I've understood how it works it was very easy for me to upgrade and equip my ships.

In the Left list you see the ships that belong to your fleet. In the middle list you can see the equipment and weapon systems that you can buy and mount on your ships, as long as you have enough Resources (you see the resources above the weapon list). On the right side it shows the list of the equipment of the ship that you are currently upgrading/equiping.

You can see in the weapon/equipment list that there are many different types of weapon systems. Light/medium/heavy/special weapons. Each weapon tsystems and each devices can only be installed on the proper slot. Meaning a heavy weapon device can not be installed on a light weapon slot (OBVIOUSLY).

For informations of the device just click on it and it shows a description. If you click a weapon you can see the categories of damage, precision and rate of fire.

For example, in this picture the selected weapon is the "Volcano Plasma Gun" (youc ans ee the weapon name in the device information box). The Valcona Plasma Gun has very good damage, meaning it is very effective against ship hulls! Other weapons like torpedoes and missiles are very effective against shield and the hull of ships and do a lot damage too. ANd other guns again like the Lasers (or phaser) do not much damage to the hull, but they can penetrate the shield and can destroy the devices/weapons of enemy ships.

etc.

I must have spent hours in this fleet config menu trying to figure out the best ship setup for each mission throughout the entire game.
Good thing i learned how to do it right.
To be honest, this is what most mods miss, because the ship setup is also part of the strategy of the game.
The basics:
Always get the fastest engines first.
Then get the best ECMs.
And always have an even balance of energy shell weapons and plasma rail guns. Lasers are **** because it takes too long to cripple a ship.
Don't ever get anti-hull rockets because in a long mission u will run out of rockets and then u will have useless weapon mounts gathering space dust.
Always leave the fighters at the end, as ship weapons and systems are far more important.
Have fun.

meh lasers are alot stronger when you get the shield down but i understand your point but once you get the shields down the lasers are mighty handy especially silver lance heavie
