Nebulinc is an old school one-button shoot 'em up action game. You embark on multiple space missions to defend planets against hostile alien forces that are invading your galaxy. Thanks to the advanced shield technology installed on your ship, you are the only one left who stands a chance against them.

Yet another week of development work on Nebulinc is completed. The main focus was prototyping the mission 2 endboss. While the game development is steadily progressing, this week marked a turning point for the Android downloads of the demo. For the first time since the launch of the demo, Android downloads overtook PC downloads. Read on for more information including the planned beta program and Macintosh support.

Planned beta program

Currently, about 25% of the missions are completed. To get a feel for them, go ahead and give the demo a try. When half of the missions are ready, I plan on starting the beta program. This gives you early access to the game at no cost to you and hopefully you report any problems and suggestions back to me, leading to an even better game upon its launch date!

Macintosh support

Some of you might have noticed that there is no demo for Macintosh OSX. Theoretically, the current demo does already support OSX. The reason that I did not make it available is because of some technical challenges regarding Apple's upgrade from the Java Runtime Environment (JRE) version 6 to JRE version 7.
Most games programmed in Java on top of the LWJGL library reported problems when trying to run them on JRE 7, including Minecraft. The LWJGL community is working hard on resolving this issue. Once resolved, I plan on preparing a demo built specifically for OSX and make it available for testing purposes.

Development progress

After quite some brainstorming and prototype work, mission 2 now has an awesome endboss! Its name is "Ortox" and I am very happy with the results. Its behavior fits well with the enemies that were introduced in mission 2. The next step it to polish the graphics a bit. When ready, I may post some sneak preview pictures or a video, so stay tuned!
