Use the flame thrower!
Wouldn't that be interesting? The organic stuff just constantly grows and spreads from each hive, to the extent that entire sections of wherever you are are (spaceship or building, I can't tell) can become blocked off. And to regain access, you must use a flamethrower to burn away the organic stuff. Then to throw the human players off, let the organic stuff "spawn" from air vents, and clog up areas that don't have a hive near them.
four words... Kill it with fire.
