We are developing a RPG Pokémon-like game, with a small twist. Instead of collecting monsters, you collect words, which you use to defeat enemies. The initial idea is to make a game which makes it fun to learn new languages, targeted primarily to children. Over the last few months, we have given the game much thought, and found Unity to be a perfect game-engine for our needs. Although, we have been lazy. On Monday, we started to work on the project, so what we will be presenting here is effectively only three days of work. We expect to have a playable prototype ready for Friday. I believe there is potential in using games for teaching, and Lingua Quest will be our first attempt to make such a game. we intend to create a fully-fledged RPG game with an immersing world and a variety of ways to engage the players into exploring new languages and cultures.
We are believers in "open development", and shall try to write a summary of each of the proceeding workdays spanning over the months of development to come. If we win a Unity Pro license, it will enable us to realize the game as we dream it to be.
Until next time,
Alan - head of Troll Games
Good Idea. I mean, it should be good for people. Are you going to have people from different backgrounds help on the game?
Yes, we intend to make back-end tools to make the game modifiable, and make the game together with the community and hopefully with the help of language teachers too. I will try to write a post about it today or tomorrow.
Thank you for the feedback :)
In that map, Is it cell-shaded? The castle looks very cool. I hope to see you guys press on with this. I am kinda sick of so many mods that are just for killing and stuff. This is original, and No bloodshed I hope.
That's right, the castle is toon-shaded! We would also like a game without bloodshed.. But unfortunately, I don't think we can help ourselves :)
