This game is my baby. I've been working on this video game in the dark for three and a half years, only a handful of people have seen it. When I saw the dawn of the N64 and the PSX, I saw the death of the side-scrolling genre as a staple of the game industry. Once the third dimension arrived, no one wanted to tap the potential of a 2d shooting game anymore. It's time for the category to have its justice.

I've finally put together another video. This one is showcasing a lot of the changes I made, but mostly the motorcycle, molotov cocktails, and gasoline.

You may have noticed graphical errors in the back of the video, don't worry. I'm in the process of overhauling the graphics engine. The game runs fine on my computer(s), but when I try to test it out on my friend's less powerful computer it lags. If I rebuild the graphics engine smarter, I should be able to reach my targets.

I have also made progress in what I feel is one of the most important areas. I've made the first real strides from turning the lan-multiplayer part of II into an online extravaganza. I figured out network optimization by turning a constant flood of information into a slow trickle. It seems to be working, and I'm ready for my first online test.

Looking quiet good so far. Really makes me want to start a 2d game with my own engine.

I'd definitely suggest to make a game in an already established engine unless your idea is broader than most engines allow. I made my own half for the challenge and half for the fact that I can now do anything I set my mind to. It can be a total bitch setting up sprite loading/animation, physics, collision detection, graphics optimizations, fast networking, map editors, ai, etc, etc, all by yourself one step at a time. I'm currently dealing with a poor choice in the graphics portion that is causing me to rewrite large chunks of code into directx.
But though all the hard work, It can be an extremely satisying experience when it all comes together.

I think he's far enough along that switching to a different engine would be the very definition of insanity. Anyway, looking good. Tracking this for sure.
