Greats of the Gridiron is a football simulation experience unlike any other where you need to Outdraft, Outdesign, and Outcoach other coaches from around the world if you want to win the coveted Gridiron Bowl and stake your claim to Greatness.

Outdraft

Pit your abilities and eye for spotting talent and strategically build your team from a pre-generated list of players, in real-time, as General Manager against other savvy coaches within your league. Maybe you need to replace an aging QB set for retirement? Maybe you’re looking to pull off a blockbuster trade. It’s your team to do as you wish. Just remember, if you’re team is getting passed all over – you may have wanted to draft that lockdown CB instead of the stud OL you coveted.

Outdesign

As Offensive and Defensive Coordinator, you create plays such as sluggos, sweeps, traps, slants and posts as well as defensive schemes using simple, easy to understand tools. Assign each player their own specific instruction such as blitz, man-to-man or zone and even zone blocking for the running game. You can tell the QB to pass the ball or go through his progressions.

Use any of the pre-generated templates for some basic formations and then customize them any way you want to implement your offensive or defensive philosophy. Maybe you’re looking at running the West Coast offense? Or, maybe you want to bring back the Run and Shoot? What about the K-Gun? We all know offenses get the glory, but defenses wins championships. You can design anything from the Tampa 2 or Cover 2 to an all out blitz. Will your base package be a 3-4 or 4-3? Some of it depends on the players you draft, so draft wisely.

And let’s not forget special teams. You design punt returns and kickoff returns. You’ll design the onside kick that may win you a game. You design everything and the only thing limiting you is your imagination as the playbook size is near limitless (luckily there are plenty of filters in there to help keep it organized).

Outcoach

Play calling is how the Great coaches are separated from the rest of the league. It’s one thing to have dynamic offensive plays and stingy defensive schemes – but what good are they if they’re not called at the right time? You’re in your first ever Gridiron Bowl and it’s 4th and 1 from your 45 with 1:30 remaining in the game. You’re down 3. Is a bomb (and the go ahead TD) the most unexpected thing you can do that the opposing defense isn’t prepared for? Or, do you inexplicably punt the ball away, as well as any change you had at being crowned Champion?

As Head Coach, you determine when and where each play is called using the Play Call Acumen system. You determine the down, distance, score differential, and timing. You’ll also set the penalty/reward points depending on how that play does so that you don’t keep calling the same bad play over and over, as well as making sure you call the plays that are working well. You are in total control of the team. Call the sideline 2-minute offense or a run only attack to milk the clock down. But more importantly, have the FG team run onto the field and kick a game winning 45 yard field goal on 3rd down as time expires - rather than throwing a 10 yard slant. You will see this happened to other unprepared coaches.

Manage Your League

Greats of the Gridiron can be played in single game or league seasons managed by a League Commissioner. Each League Commissioner sets the rules for the league. These rules include player attribute point caps, game scheduling and numerous other options. The League Commissioner also runs the seasons and games, while coaches can sign on and watch their games (and other league games) being run.

Single and Multi-Player

With more than a dozen teams in the default league, each with their own unique playbook, hundreds of game hours can be played in single player mode. Single player allows for a 10 game season to be played along with a playoff tournament and Championship game at the end.

Players can also form online leagues with friends or coaches from around the world, online, to truly see where their drafting, design and coaching skills are and to try and win the glorious Gridiron Bowl and to see if they can truly be called a Great of the Gridiron.
