:GAMETYPE: CTD/Up + DM/TDM
:HOW MANY PLAYERS?: 8-16
:DESCRIPTION:
This is actually 2 maps in one (DMTDM_Gladiatorial and OBJ_Gladiatorial).
They are the same base map, however since DM/TDM is so different to CTD/Uprising game mode, there is a maze in the middle of one, and no maze in the middle of the other.
I tried to do both maps in one, however due to the engine limits, it did not allow for two APR and UFLL bases, so this is the only way I can do it.
Anyway, the maps are based roughly on a colluseum, only this isn't rounded, or as large as a real life colluseum.
Players are able to run inside the sandy pit of the arena, also down in the holding areas on either side of the pit, players can also run from the holding areas up to the spectator stands, and walk behind the arches that line the outside of the arena, as well as the corridoors in the corners.
In the OBJ version of the map, the fighting pit is no mans land, it is empty, and will most likely result in death while trying to cross it to get the enemy diamond, where as in DMTDM, there is a maze of walls to run around in to make things more interesting.
There are also 2 mounted machine guns overlooking the fighting pit.
Nice - I like
hehe, which one? OBJ or DMTDM? or both :P
I prefer the version with no labyrinth. Nice map!
I like your tastes; I also prefer the version without the labrynth, but you understand why it is there for DMTDM don't you? If not, it's to make the map more interesting, the maze area itself would be fun to run around in as a map :P
I probably could have done more with the maze in terms of freedom, since there were some low walls in there that weren't meant to get raised, but they got raised and it all worked out anyway :P
I hope you all enjoy.
This is cool however i decided to redo your map with only looking at it once or twice. I actually did make my map look almost identical. Its a good idea and you pulled it off perfectly however i think you need to add some better features to make it more unique. Make it imposable to recreate and at the same time look amazing.
You do realize that if you recreate the map your entry is disqualified?
HAHAHAHA!
Not trying to be rude here, but here is what it says in the rules:
"The work submitted must be original (never before seen) and not a forgery. Forgery will result in immediate disqualification"
haha, not what i mean. I'm just saying your going to see a lot of replicas of this kind of thing. Like were going to see a lot of city maps, island maps, fort maps, ect. I'm not saying what you made was bad i actually think its one of the best out there right now. What i am saying however is what separates yours from the rest, right now its basically like building with "legos". For example f0u make a map that blew my mind and I could never redo. I'm trying to get a point accost that's hard to explain. But yeah if you thought i meant that i was going to enter your map as mine that's not what i meant at all....
ok, I thought you were going to try and recreate my map or something that's all.
You make some very valid points about what people will try and do in this competition, more and more people are joining and it's only a matter of time before there are dozens floating islands, colluseums, forts, floating forts, towers, robots, bridge maps and so on.
So it's best to get in early and do the maps well.
This map is was kinda like lego, most maps are really, and it's a bit frustrating trying to make it more detailed and stay in the same or similar theme as there aren't many objects that really fit into the colluseum theme/style.
I would much rather do a map that is creative and out there that takes several hours to make (which is the whole idea of the "WHAT THE!?" award than do some hilly areas with some vehicles and trees, as that to me is not eligable to the competition, that kindof map is stock standard and can be made within 5 mins (no joke).
Anyway, thanks for clearing that up, my apologies if I seemed rude, but I did feel a bit threatened from reading your previous comment.
Actually, I should comment again that it's nothing like lego, but looks like it. With lego, everything kinda fits together. With this, it doesn't.
Every single object that I added to the map or any of my maps, I make sure to test the object to make sure it fits in fine, you can't see through any gaps, or you don't get stuck and so on.
If it were like lego, all i'd be doing is copy pasta all the way around and bingo I have a map, however I did interiors to this as well, and because I had one tiny little problem somewhere along the way, it kinda stuffed up alot of the rest of the map, however, it's not really noticable to players.
Very cool map. I'd like to make something similar. Like the Colliseum.
I went to make the colluseum at first, but making this rounded was kinda crappy at first. I could probably do it NOW that i've got more of a grasp for the editor, but there's really no point.
Sweet map with nice layout :D
Thanks 4ev3r. I could probably do it better now compared to back when I made it though :P
meh its alright
there you go :D
