Claustrophobia: The Downward Struggle is an indie RPG roguelike, with a retro graphic style and a terrible sense of humour. The game takes place in a series of ever descending randomly generated dungeon floors, packed full of monsters to slaughter and loot to pillage. The game plays like a traditional roguelike, but with a clean UI, a slick, action orientated combat system, and a massive range of enemy types, skills, gear and room designs. With features like crafting, skill trees, characters development, and just-one-more-room style gameplay, Claustrophobia is a love letter to traditional RPG rougelikes. Create your ideal hero, build your own custom class, then set out on your quest for glory, slaughter, and anything shiny!

Not sure what the issue is with my computer, but I just started playing yesterday. I have to erase the save directory to boot up the game again without a crash on launch. I installed the XNA framework as suggested and the issue persists. The game is pretty fun but currently I am having these major issues with it. Thanks

Hmm, when exactly is the game crashing? Is it the saved data or the setting data which is causing the crash?

Generally it has been when my character dies but before any animation or announcement occurs, or if I save&quit, right after I hit the key.

I just forced a crash by dying and it seems to be the Settings data.

Edit: The save files are also showing as 0kb. Surely this isn't normal?

Edit 2: Sorry, just adding more information. Hitting Continue also causes crashes.

Edit 3: I'm also running the version from Gamersgate which is 1.0.91, which to my understanding is outdated?

The GamersGate version is indeed behind, and that will be brought up to date for 1.1.0. I wasn't aware of any crashing in 1.1.0, but I would assume it will be something wrong in that version. Hopefully the patch at the end of the week will fix it. If it doesn't, delete the whole Claustrophobia folder in SavedGames, and if it persists after that, let me know.

I tried the new version. During the installation, I have a deletefile error code 5 for the .exe. It was the same in the old version even running as admin.

In addition, the exact same problem occurs in the new version. I'm not quite sure what else could be the problem.

Hmm, I don't know whats going on here. I've run the latest version from GamersGate and have none of these problems. The only thing I can suggest is uninstalling the current version of Claustrophobia, deleting the Claustrophobia folder in SavedGames, and trying a fresh install.
Let me know how that goes.

I have the same problem with a fresh install. Supposedly that error only occurs when there are multiple programs trying to access the file simultaneously. I'm not sure which process that might be.

I can "ignore" the problem but I still have the same boot>save>crash, boot>die>crash Boot>continue>crash problems. This happens 100% of the time, so it's a little distressing. Could there be other applications running in the background that are incompatible?

I have installed other titles from Gamersgate and they all give that error during install so the good news is that it's not your game. However I am still have the same errors as before. I'll see what I can find out. It may be something about my system. Other people seem perfectly able to play it.
