Broken soul is a pixeled adventure horror game, inspired by Silent Hill and The Count Lucanor. Alex, a typical man, starts noticing some weird things happening to him. Everything seems familiar but alien. Minutes, hours, days are erased from his memories. Why has it stated? What is hidden in his lost memories? Broken soul is a personal hell of a lost person, which makes Alex meet his own demons. Should he lose to his fears or he must struggle and fight off the things his own mind hides? Good day everyone.
This post I want to dedicate to the game itself, what I was inspired by, what I plan to realize in it, what is there and some more.
So, last time I told you how I came to such an idea as a pixel game and where the roots of "pixels" grow from. Now, I want to tell you a little bit about how the idea of the game grew.

About three years ago, I was introduced to the games of developer Baroque Decay. This is a small group of developers who have made two games so far: The Count Lucanor and Yuppie Psycho. The second game became very popular in my country, among fans of such indie games. Much contributed to this Kuplinov, who completely passed Yuppie Psycho on one of the endings of the game. The first game, however, did not become as popular, but personally, I like it better. Count Lucanor is a more localized and complex game, compared to the madness of the offices and the witch's curse. Well, and I'll be honest, I just like the setting of a scary tale better than the offices of buildings, albeit cursed. And even then, the thought crossed my mind that maybe I could do something similar? And when actually, the process went, I immediately realized what my game would be like.

There was an idea for a combat plunger, but I abandoned it.

To be honest, when I made the first sketches and developments for my game, I was very afraid that the developers of Baroque Decay or their fans would throw tomatoes at me, because I make very similar graphics. So, I decided to take a risk and honestly admitted that I was inspired by their games.

I confessed in the discord server of the developers. And to my considerable surprise, I met not a barrage of criticism, but support and wishing me luck. What the hell, it felt really good and I even cried once out of embarrassment. "Sempai, noticed me", something like that I felt at that moment. It really made me very happy and inspired. Yeah and in general, I was preparing for the worst, but for the most part, when I share my developments with people on the internet now, I get cheered up.

I really didn't expect this. I thought I was just another nameless indie developer doing something weird and useless. And here- people are genuinely excited and waiting for a release or new news about the disassembly. It's really nice and gives me fuel to keep going.

Because, I'm really trying hard and working on all the components of the game. And first of all, I decided that it is necessary to think over the plot of the game, because I did not just make a pixel game, but a pixel horror. It seems to me that horrors, good horrors attract and scare people with their stories and atmosphere. Screamers are a very banal and primitive way to cause fright, but gradual fear, from the realization of what's going on here - that's it, the very pulp.

I created the plot of my game from things that are familiar and close to me. No, it doesn't mean that my everyday life is a nightmare. It's just that everyone has their own complexes, painful topics and cockroaches. So with my own cockroaches I sprinkled abundantly and sprinkled both the plot and game designs.
So what kind of outrage will happen in the game? The story begins simply and unpretentious. The protagonist named Alex, wakes up from a nasty nightmare that caught him in an elevator. Alex is generally a morbid guy, not only suffers from nightmares, he also sometimes gets lost in space and has some memory lapses. Too bad for him, but he himself refuses to take medication that should help him with these problems. But what to do, the hero goes to his apartment, in which begin to happen quite unpleasant oddities. That things are not in their places, then a call on the phone, but persistently looking for some girl. Alex has been living in this place for a long time and before him there were no girls living here. Then at all, from the closet begins to come, knocking, growling and meowing, although there are no pets in the hero. After that, something from the closet quickly devours our poor protagonist and... He finds himself alive, but in a completely different and unfamiliar place. And this is where the real nightmare awaits him, not a dream.

Perhaps the plot is not too original, but I hope that in the format of the game situation, it will be more attractive and intriguing. And to be a little clearer, the main part of the game will take place exactly in the so-called nightmare, nightmare museum. According to the classics of the genre, the museum will be the very mansion with traps, riddles and some monsters that will scare the player. Here I decided not to deviate much from the classic representatives of Survival horror. The museum is also chosen because it is an interesting playground, with a lot of rooms, interesting scenery and just beautiful details. Moreover, in the museum you can add almost any themed room and play it from the point of view that it is an exposition or exhibition on an unusual topic. So for me, there is nothing stopping me from shoving whatever I want into my nightmare museum.

That's about it. I want to tell you a little bit about what I have on my hands now. I have a title for the game, Broken soul. Yes, you won't believe me, but I had a very hard time coming up with a name. I always have a hard time with titles and names for characters. I put some of my developments into the post, you've already seen them as you read. Speaking of programming, the "base" is ready now. At this stage, the character can take damage, can run and walk, can interact with objects. Over the next half a year, I want to implement a save system. If all goes well, the next year I hope to finish my game.

And yes, the game's page is available in steam.
I would be very grateful if you add the game to your wishlist and subscribe. That's probably the end of today. Next time, I want to write more about some monsters, ideas of their designs and one of my childhood fears, which I want to transfer into the game. I hope you had fun reading this post.
Have a good mood and good luck.
