Post news Report RSS Dev Diary - Alone - Tribe - Tunnels & Conversations

This week I added a bit more flair to the siege camp, and made NPCs a bit more talkative.

Howdy,

I’d like to start off this diary by mentioning that Alone is currently on sale as part of the Steam Sprint Sale – you can get a 20% discount if you want to try it out. Of course if you’re reading this in the future, this won’t apply. Unless you’re reading this in the future and there happens to be another sa…. I digress.

So this week I finished off the upgrade display with the secret passage being underground and therefore needing some tunneling to reach – so here’s what that looks like

With that done, I started on something to try to add a bit of ambiance – random conversation snippets.

The idea is that whilst there are specific NPCs which you can talk to for quest purposes – everyone else shouldn’t be silent, and might have some comments on whatever they’re doing.

So now every few so often, if applicable – someone might pass a remark or two.

The way the comments work are pretty simple – each individual may have a list of lines – and they won’t repeat themselves. It also tries to pick talkers who are near the player character, so you won’t have random people emoting across the map.

For now I’m in the process of putting it on the warriors in the siege camp – but I’ll eventually revisit the Tribehome and this should make it more lively.

I might also add this feature to enemies to make them feel a bit more alive – but I’ll see later.

Incidentally, the guy who’s digging the tunnel could really use a drink and a nap

So that wraps it up for this week. Next week I’ll finish off the conversational snippets for the camp – and then it’s boss fight time.

Til then
