Unable to launch Desura Thread

Whenever I log in to Desura, I always receive an error message telling me that Desura has crashed, and that I can either restart Desura or force an update.

Both of these options don't appear to do anything as with either a restart or update, Desura continues to crash at login.

Any ideas?

It happens the same, I have tried to reinstall and still the same.

First off identify the last install you created on Desura (normally this will be a modification if Desura has broken) then remove it from your system manually and get in touch with us via support@desura.com.

Second navigate to this folder C:\ProgramData\Desura\DesuraAp­p (programdata is normally hidden) and delete the files that are not in folders. This will simply reset your custom installs and force you to verify each game again but if there is an issue with your data this should fix it.

Lastly if all else fails head to the folder you installed Desura in and delete all files aside from the common folder and the Desura exe. This is the quickest way to have a fresh install as running the exe again will replace all the files.Hope this helps.

This is pure f***ery. Why is this happening? I just downloaded Desura 2 days ago. Only launched it twice for a handful of mods i already had. Used it to organize my mods and it was working fine. 3rd day of having it and it won't start. Do i really have to uninstall it already? if this happened so quickly, 33% of my time with it is crashing, this is not looking very useful. I can't see myself using this for very long. If this happens again i'm done with it. There is no excuse for this, either get professional programmers to create a functional program or just give up. i'm tired of all the incompetence in today's software.

Made a game that costed millions of dollars and charge people $60 for it? Well it's got bugs on day-1 anyway. This is the kind of s**** we gotta deal with today. I do apologize for the ranting but this is a personal issue i have with lazy software designing and it puts me into a rage.

So at your rant feel free to make a auto downloading service to support complex mod installs with a tiny staff. It is not easy to make it work. So here is what I will need from you. A list of modifications you installed via the service, where your Desura install is located, the name of the mod that you think broke your install, a list of fixes you have attempted already and your console log output.

If you're going to make a support post like this please make sure you include information that can help us diagnose your issue.

i have the same problem ive done 1 and 2 but it doesnt work and 3 i have to restore items for it to work. My password is changed when i log in, so i dont know if my password is correct. i get error 38.107? help!

What did not work, I need more information then "it did not work".

Ok. It still happens the same : Always that Desura launches when my pc starts,it crashes. But it doesn't crash when it's on offline mode. And,sometimes,it launchs,but that very strange to happen.

So you cleaned your appdata, you removed all modifications and you cleaned your Desura install location yet it wont work still? I am finding that really hard to believe.

What is the common folder? All I have is "data", "bin", and "cache".

Ok,fixed for me. It was a misunderstanding between ''Progam Files'' and ''Program Data''. That happens because my PC is in spanish,and the translation is a bit strange. Its not the first time that happens too me xD

Formatted my C drive. Fixed it for me. Everybody! Format your C drive. That's what will fix this.

Try cleaning everything in the main install for your Desura app. Just delete everything aside from the common folder and the Desura exe. Then run the exe again.

There needs to be a way to fix Desura. As others have said, when I start Desura OFFLINE, it loads and I can play games. When I start Desura to go ONLINE or while OFFLINE select ONLINE, Desura crashes. I get the message box with the option to restart or reinstall. I have done both over and over and that does not fix Desura. Rather than delete I renamed my Old Deura Folder to Desura Old so that I would not lose 33 GB of game stuff. The I reinstalled and have a 14GB cache that I don't want to lose. My Desura folder is in my C:\Games folder; NOT in Program Files (86). Why don't Desura let the user pick where files should go? Why hide files all over the computer when they can all go in one file?
So, I deleted the stuff you guys said to delete and reinstalled and then had to reinstall or reready all the games and mods. This takes many many hours. How about just fixing the problem. There is something wrong with Desura. I don't know what it is but if many people are experiencing the same problem with the same service then maybe it is worth fixing. I suppose I could use Revo Uninstall and uninstall the program completly along with registry entries; but I would prefer that you guys tell me what the registry entries should be (Win 7). I have a new Win 8 gaming machine in the mail to me for gaming and need Desura to work right. I have been using Steam; but prefer Desura because I have hundreds of mods that I can put in my Desura library.

i ran into the crash on login problem, restart app did not fix, rebooting did not fix, force upgrade did not fix[it did the force upgrade but did not fix login crash], uninstall/reinstall did not fix, like others app would start in offline mode.
fixed by uninstall desura
+ remove C:\ProgramData\Desura\
+remove C:\Users\[myusername]\AppData\Local\Desura
you will have to search C: drive, both files hidden
then reinstall desura client then all seems to be working again.
my best two guesses for cause of error,
most likely: was going through and adding the various free games to my account, crash occurred about the time i added both a games stable version and it's beta/more content version to my account so i think it was a bug where the program was trying to link one entry to two different things and crashing in confusion.
next most likely: I have a bad connection and while adding games it is possible the data the client needed for an added game became somehow corrupted by my slow connection.
sorry i can't be more specific about which free game it was, you have a long list of free games, thank you for having a long list of free games.
