Roboblitz is the first PC game to use UE3 and it was recently released on steam. It does come with editing tools and while not as extensive as those that will come with UT2k7, it is a good opportunity for those of you preparing UT2k7 mods to start prototyping. it also contains Kismet, the awesome scripting program that will change how you make mods completely. My friend and fellow developer took about 2 minutes of tooling around to create a room with a button that turned a light on and off. What was really cool was that the button was automatically a physics object so he could kick it around as well as pressing it on and off. Even for those of you experienced with UE2 (2k4) you should look into this as there have been some serious overhauls to the editor, all for the better. -- There's No Kill Like Overkill |

Yeah, the game isn't that great, and it doesn't show off the full potential of the engine at all, but having the mod tools is what its all about for me! -- There's No Kill Like Overkill |

Yeah really, that's pretty much the reason why I'll probably download it. Gonna go tell Hammy to add it |

Saw that one on Steam. I wonder if my computer can even run it. --

Thanks hammy @ EdgeFilm: How moddable is this game? Can you describe the tools a little bit more? |

Well, it is basically the same tools you will get with UT2k7, material editor, particle editor, kismet, aegiea physx, the new unreal editor, all that stuff, there's just a bunch of roboblitz custom stuff that can kind of get in your way. Roboblitz doesn't use even a 10th of what the engine is capable, so it may LOOK like it isn't the full engine, but it is. What I should say is that UE3 is still being updated and those with a license are getting updates constantly. The engine is technically beta and won't be gold until ut2k7 comes out. The one thing I'm not sure about is coding, but I will check that now and update. If people are looking to edit UT2k7 into something very unlike the Unreal game (using all custom textures and creating your own kismet packages), then you could easily do the same thing on this game. The only thing may be that the tools may be more optimized in ut2k7 since it will be coming out later, but it may give some folks a serious head start. One other thing to note, I'm not sure if making a mod of roboblitz makes you eligible for Make Something Unreal...so if that is your goal, you may want to double check that before putting all your work into the roboblitz editor (although, that work would probably be able to be easily converted into the ut2k7 editor. -- There's No Kill Like Overkill |

@Chunky: Think this may warrant a news post? Get the word out there? -- There's No Kill Like Overkill |

Write a post announcing its release with information on it (from a modding standpoint) and I'll auth it |

UPDATE: Uscript for it is being released in a patch in a few weeks. Trying to access the source code in actor classes gives you an internal protection fault atm. -- There's No Kill Like Overkill |

not to get off topic, but is it just me or does this game look even worse than source? it's got lighting, bloom, and bumpmaps. talk about next gen. |

Who the hell cares? It looks good because it's supposed to. When things look good they're entertaining. Games are meant to entertain. Get over it and stop whining. No new game will ever look like Doom or Quake ever again. But you haven't even PLAYED it yet. Just like how you called Gears of War a "shiny turd" before trying it. And look how bad it turned out |

eh? i know ill look really stupid here but Gears of War was awesome. are you being sarcastinc. or is just a mistake. |

Err that's why I put in the rolling eyes. Not like that's the first game he deemed crap because of its quality looks. It's like the better a game looks, the worse it is. I thought the demo was pretty decent; especially for that low price. I just want it for modding though. |

It is being distrubuted over steam and XBLA and is a budget title. Its a physics-based budget game, not designed to be a AAA graphical monstosity and should not be compared to the likes of Gears of War. Its an indie title as well, no official publisher aside from steam and xbla. I guess the reason they us UE3 was because it allowed them to do all the crazy physics stuff they wanted to do. -- There's No Kill Like Overkill |

So, just for the sake of reviving a 5-day-old thread and completely changing the subject... Have any of you played the game? I just finished the demo and I actually enjoyed it quite a bit. I have a feeling the full version is going to be woefully short, so much so that the $15 price tag looks a little iffy, but I did have a lot of fun with it. It's great to use the welding gun to cover your enemy in barrels, so they can't shoot you or even manuever around without piling up. The atmosphere of the game is also pretty nice, reminiscent of Scrapland without all the suck. I really want to buy it, but I'm holding off for now. Maybe I can secure a review copy... |

I thought it was clunky and boring. Interesting concept, though, and I liked the characters. But I would definitely not spend $15 on it personally. -- "He who fights with monsters might take care lest he thereby become a monster." |

Well, of course it is going to be clunky. You are playing a robot. |
