To try and keep the threads regarding crap ads down and the point to keep them under control, please post ads that meet the following criteria only.

  • Popup with no user interaction.
  • Fill the entire screen or change the layout of ModDB.
  • Popup in a separate window and/or pretend you are infected with a virus or spyware.
  • Viagra / Sexual adverts.
  • Play sound / video with no user interaction.

Our official stand point is a advert free site, however with the site growing day by day and it all being free to use, adverts mean continued operation of ModDB, IndieDB and our services.

To post a complaint please screencap the advert in action, breaking the site, layout or popup screen as it sits.
Then paste it into mspaint or your image editor and upload it to something like imageshack.us

IF YOU DONT POST A SCREENSHOT WE CAN NOT HELP YOU

Like this example from spector.

To clarify this isn't a spot to complain about the ads, just report ones that break our rules as per above, we don't like the ads like you guys n gals, but they pay for the site and the content of the ads cannot be controlled by ModDB or its staff, so with that in mind and the fact we see them as well, just post if you have a advert to report.... knowing we know you're not happy about ads on the site.

Regards
ModDB Staff

To clarify, malicious ads, spammy ads, viagra ads - basically anything bad is not authorized by us. All ads on the site are run by a third party. They monitor these ads but unfortunately because their are thousands, it seems dodgy ones are managing to find their way in. We are doing all we can to avoid this, but it is a battle that is hard to win.

I don't like the ones that open by scrolling the mouse over them. I always trip em.
I know that counts as user integration, but it shouldn't. :(

For me they might as well just pop the shit up on my screen, because i'm probably gonna hit it more then once by accident.

But i'm sure they are effective.

In fact they break the rule. They alter the layout obscuring content without you wishing to do so.

Exactly how do you post screens on to the thread? I know how to take them but I don't know how to post

You add the word "IMG" in brackets (these- [ ] -things) before the link to the image, and then "/IMG" in brackets after. If you upload the image to photobucket, just click: Share > link code > embed > forum - and there will be the code.

The sprint ad at the top's close box gets blocked by the ad on the side and it shows up behind it.
I'd prefer no adds that expand out of their original space.
But i can deal with them :P

DUDE there was a video ad that just made me click in order to continue to my movie, now normally this wouldn't be that big of a deal, except the continue button was part of the flash stuff FOR the advertisement before the movie, which means I wouldn't be surprised of there's going to be one soon that tricks you into "continuing onto content" and brings you into a pop up...

I'm getting ones that take fifteen seconds before the vid (no problem there) but then AFTER they finish they hijack the video player and make me wait another fifteen while trying to get me to click on stuff. i'll upload a screen cap if you'd like, but tis that HBO commercial for the stupid "tim" show.

to be clear, does rollover count as user interaction? Cause I don't think it should.

I think it depends. Rollover is too easy to trigger accidentally, so the reaction should be appropriately small IMHO. Making noises is my borderline for inappropriate. Exploding out of the frame or popping up new windows in reaction to rollover is definitely unacceptable.

Not sure if my opinions coincide with the official guidelines or not though :(

I'm getting that LoTR one too. (^^that one up there^^)
And as much as I love LoTR, this is really getting on my nerves. it shows up EVERY SINGLE PAGE I visit, and hijacks my screen EVERY single time. I can't stand it anymore.

Does this one count? It's a pain to deal with since you sometimes end up hitting it again when you try and close it.

Apr 14 2010 Anchor

Does it expand with no action taken?
