My idea would be a Halo 3 styled source mod that shares the amazing features of the source engine, and the awesome gameplay of Halo 3! I am an avid HL2DM player but in my opinion, the game's physics don't suit my fancy. Thats why I propose someone help me make a Halo (proposing we have the Halo physics) style source mod. I would need programmers, modelers, mappers, and people who can make me skins. I would be doing the writing and art portion. Hopefully I can get help with this.

I can't say i'm too impressed. Sure, Halo is okay (at best), but why not come up with something original, something that you created yourself? You could go forward with this mod, finish it, and all that good stuff. But i'll tell you now, it's so much more satisfying when it's your game idea, your game concept, that you took from the cradle to the grave, that you fostered, edited, spent hours pouring over looking for improvements, design flaws, imbalances. It's creating your own concept that will help you develop and grow into a better game designer. Simply copying a previously existing IP isn't going to do that.

On top of that, a little more detail wouldn't hurt. Perhaps some art, maybe show some of the design work you've done on it. Because right now, you're just presenting yourself as another "guy with an idea", who wants to make a game, but isn't ready to put the initial effort into getting even a basic outline of the design done. (A quick glimpse at your moddb profile shows me that this isn't the first time you've simply presented yourself as an "Idea guy") No, you just want a plethora of source experts to swoop down and create your game for you, and after which, you can tag yourself as the "Creator of that awesome Halo mod".

If you're going to make a rebuttal and say "But i'm going to work on the writing and art portion", i don't think anyone would believe you have the ability or the talent to pull that off with aplomb until you provide examples of some sort.

My advice? Forget this post. Go out and do some work yourself. Get the writing done. Get some art done. Then return with those assets in hand, and post in a more professional way, with those assets included in the post. Until you do that, i doubt anyone is going to come to your help.

And also, there will always be those that are critical of your mod. Come prepared with a bullet proof vest, read every post, whether the premise is "awesome mod" or, "man, this mod sucks", take it in, consider it, and most importantly, TAKE THEIR ADVICE SERIOUSLY. They, are the players. They, are the ones that will tell their friends whether to give it a shot or to not touch it with a ten-foot pole. And if you're lucky, they could very well be fellow developers trying to give you advice, because they've been in the trenches before.

I have artwork finished already. I just need to fix my scanner. Also I have been doing some writing. Weapons and multi player modes.

Well then perhaps you should have gotten your scanner fixed, scanned your artwork, and then posted this thread. Even if your scanner is fixed, i assume your keyboard is working quite fine. So why don't you give us some of the writing you've done?

Alright. (BTW these is my weapon ideas :3)
(Note: These are all weapons that are in real life too. Also I am Swedish so pardon my English.)
The UZI- Its a step up from HL2DM's smg, doing twice the damage, but does not include the grenade.
The RPD- The times as much damage as the UZI, it will rip you apart!
The RPG- Half the damage of the rocket launcher, but a bigger inventory to hold rockets.
Grenades: Grenades will be trigger by right click and they will all have special abilities. The SLAM will stick to the player and will detonate when the player right clicks again, like the Demoman's sticky launcher. (Assuming you know who that its.) The frag will be the same and share the same qualities (except for maybe a skin change.)
(I haven't really got anything else. Sadly, my job is not very forgiving to people not on task ;] hehe. Of course when I am off I can get you more.)

It's a start, i recommend you go into much more detail on the weapons. If you want to make them at least appear unique, don't compare them to weapons that already exist in games.

Those are okay for basic weapons, but I recommend you come up with some unique and original weapons.

Personal I think there is no need for more Halo like mods and games but i'm always happy to back people with there projects. I say go for it mate but do your best to make it as far from Halo as you can. Use Halo as your base and then work up from there and you shouldn't have a problem mate.

You probably should have mentioned that in the first post, i recommend you edit it.

The vehicle physics in Halo were pretty nice.

Now I am getting somewhere ;] sorry about that. Also, the melee combat in Halo 3 was cool.... I want to incorporate that in there too. And I would also like to have an aiming/iron sight view.

I may be wrong but i believe Iron Sight is very easy if your using the Orange Box engine. I think this should help you out Developer.valvesoftware.com I think it's for Muitplayer but there should be one for sinlge player as well somewhere there.

As for the Melee I guess, and don't hold me to this, you would just need to have the Melee animation of the weapon in question then program it so that when a button is pressed that Animation plays out.

Thats just what I think mind you so you would be best to look around. Hope that helps ya out mate.

I once had a go at that Iron Sight myself it seems easy to if you know the basics of Coding which sadly i don't :P

I did infact make a Halo Source mod, its buggy, but has Halo weapons and player models. Pm me and I'll send it, after I upload it.

I have to agree. However i can understanding wanting to build an idea off Halo as many games to do that these days just not making Halo it's self. Also i'm sure someone will try to make you pay copyright.
