Post feature Report RSS FUEL: REFUELED - V15 New Handling [1]

A short article that discusses the changes made to the handling profiles of certain vehicles in FUEL: REFUELED.

Posted by on

W hen you first start playing FUEL, the first vehicle you are given the chance to drive is a Buggy. In FUEL, these are light-weight vehicles that are not as fast as your typical Muscle-car or even SUV's. In FUEL: REFUELED V15 I wanted to make handling changes that reflect Buggies as being not just a light-weight class of car, i.e. actually giving them unique uses. In this version you will see certain Buggies obtaining faster acceleration and even a higher top speed, there will also be changes to give more emphasis on ground resistance and an overall higher grip to reduce slides.

The idea I'm going for is that these are quick off the line machines, yet not as fast as muscle-cars and certainly not as heavy as SUV's. Below are vehicle by vehicle changes as well as short notes on how it effects the vehicle in the game world. Please note that these values may change before release.

The Psychotic Fox

Buggy [OFF]: Psychotic Fox

This buggy is really nice machine, I've given it a slightly higher top speed to make it more comparable to the likes of the SUV's and Muscle-cars of its class. This vehicle is now not that effective on roads and receives quite a bit of ground resistance when driving off-road. The changes reflect that this buggy is never going to win a drag race, but a minor acceleration boost will give it the performance it needs to get ahead from taking adventurous off-road short cuts.

  • (4) Roll-ability increase = [1] to [1.3]
  • (153) Off-road resistance increase = [0.5] to [10]
  • (323) On-road resistance increase = [8] to [50]
  • (324) Max RPM increase = [7000] to [8050]
  • (617 & 619) On-road grip increase = [140] to [150]
  • (618 & 620) Off-road grip increase = [125] to [200]

The Mudhog

Buggy [OFF]: Mudhog

A rival to the Psychotic Fox, this buggy is lighter but more prone to rolling. This was one of the few vehicles that had problems adapting to the new ground resistance modifications - it would only function are incredibly low values, thus the increases to resistance are not as high as other vehicles, however the effect is the same. This vehicle is very similar to the Psychotic Fox, with the ground resistance increased you'll be neck-and-neck through-out the race. Just remember not to be too adventurous... this thing really does roll easily.

  • (4) Roll-ability increase = [1] to [1.3]
  • (153) Off-road resistance increase = [2.7] to [5]
  • (323) On-road resistance increase = [8] to [10]
  • (617 & 619) On-road grip increase = [132] to [150]
  • (618 & 620) Off-road grip increase = [117] to [200]

The Spider Wraith

Buggy [OFF]: Spider Wraith

The dune buggy of choice - its shape seems to counter-act rolling and you can do some crazy dune jumps. With the ground resistance changes it actually appears it hasn't had a great deal of negative effect on it, however it has become a great deal more effective at taking turns while at a high speed due to the increased overall grip. Just don't over do it - this thing has been given a minor roll-ability increase and thus even this buggy now has its limits.

  • (4) Roll-ability increase = [1] to [1.3]
  • (153) Off-road resistance increase = [4] to [10]
  • (323) On-road resistance increase = [8] to [50]
  • (617 & 619) On-road grip increase = [132] to [150]
  • (618 & 620) Off-road grip increase = [117] to [200]

The Salamander

Buggy [OFF]: Salamander

I've always liked this buggy for use on rugged terrain, it has a good set of suspension and it can counter-act a lot of the bumps where others wouldn't. The ground resistance increase means you'll need greater acceleration to power-through the rough terrain, and you'll find a slight performance decrease while driving on roads. However it does have a notable grip increase when driving off-road so take advantage of that - take those shortcuts and allow yourself to out maneuver your opponents.

  • (153) Off-road resistance increase = [2.4] to [10]
  • (323) On-road resistance increase = [8] to [50]
  • (617 & 619) On-road grip increase = [160] to [150]
  • (618 & 620) Off-road grip increase = [145] to [200]

The Firefly

Buggy [OFF]: Firefly

A tough all-round machine that can tackle extreme shortcuts where other buggies wouldn't dare. This vehicle was given a minor speed decrease, mainly to balance it out with the other vehicles. Despite the negative changes to its road capability and the fact it faces a great deal of ground resistance, it still does what it does best - powering its way round the track with endurance on its side.

  • (153) Off-road resistance increase = [1] to [10]
  • (323) On-road resistance increase = [8] to [50]
  • (617 & 619) On-road grip increase = [170] to [150]
  • (618 & 620) Off-road grip increase = [155] to [200]

The Avenger

Buggy [ALL]: Avenger

The avenger is one of my favorite vehicles, an all-round mid-performance machine that is a joy to drive across any terrain. The changes made reflect that this is a true all-round vehicle, it's not brilliant at either driving on or off road but its more than capable of keeping up in which ever style of racing its thrown at it. While it does encounter more ground resistance, it is given a reasonable buff when it comes to grip - so its great at keeping up with an OFF or ROAD vehicle until the terrain switches and the Avenger can gain the upper hand.

  • (4) Roll-ability increase = [1] to [1.2]
  • (153) Off-road resistance increase = [11] to [25]
  • (323) On-road resistance increase = [8] to [25]
  • (617 & 619) On-road grip increase = [157] to [175]
  • (618 & 620) Off-road grip increase = [102] to [175]

The One-eyed Jack

Buggy [ALL]: One-eyed Jack

An all-road vehicle most capable on rough terrain where its ride height gives it an advantage. The ground resistance changes has a negative effect on its on-road capabilities, but its a great deal more capable off-road due to the increased overall grip.

  • (153) Off-road resistance increase = [13.5] to [25]
  • (323) On-road resistance increase = [8] to [25]
  • (617 & 619) On-road grip increase = [160] to [175]
  • (618 & 620) Off-road grip increase = [102] to [175]

The Zero G

Buggy [ALL]: Zero G

This light-weight buggy packs a fair bit of speed and can easily out-run most vehicles on or off road. Its low ride does lead to it being very bumpy on rough terrain, so its not a great idea to attempt an off-road adventure during a race. The increased ground resistance doesn't affect this vehicle as much as other buggies, and with the significant off-road grip increase this vehicle is a lot more effective.

  • (4) Roll-ability increase = [1] to [1.3]
  • (153) Off-road resistance increase = [14] to [25]
  • (323) On-road resistance increase = [8] to [25]
  • (617 & 619) On-road grip increase = [170] to [175]
  • (618 & 620) Off-road grip increase = [115] to [175]

The Viper

Buggy [ALL]: Viper

The Viper is fast, low and light-weight - great for roads and flat off-road, but hit a patch of rough terrain and you'll knock yourself out of the race. Because of its ride height and as a result of the new ground resistance changes, you'll only get a speed comparable to the Psychotic Fox off-road, but on the road it'll be comparable to a Superfly.

  • (153) Off-road resistance increase = [12] to [25]
  • (323) On-road resistance increase = [8] to [25]
  • (617 & 619) On-road grip decrease = [185] to [175]
  • (618 & 620) Off-road grip increase = [115] to [175]

The Dragonfly

Buggy [ROAD]: Dragonfly

A fast low rider that can out class nearly any OFF or ALL buggies on the road, but hit some dirt and it'll be rendered effectively useless. In this set of handling changes this vehicle encounters a lot more resistance from driving off-road, however it does feature a 100% increase in its grip, reducing the effect where it would just slide all over the place. Stick to what its good at - on-road driving, anything else is a waste of its time.

  • (153) Off-road resistance increase = [30] to [50]
  • (323) On-road resistance increase = [8] to [10]
  • (617 & 619) On-road grip increase = [180] to [200]
  • (618 & 620) Off-road grip increase = [75] to [150]

The Superfly

Buggy [ROAD]: Superfly

The Superfly is an odd design but actually very effective at what it does. On the roads it can reach some really high speeds as a result of its light-weight and low-ride design. Off-road is not so good, to the point where it isn't worth trying - but I have given it a significant grip increase to stop it getting stuck and aimlessly sliding about.

  • (153) Off-road resistance increase = [25] to [50]
  • (323) On-road resistance increase = [8] to [10]
  • (617 & 619) On-road grip increase = [188] to [200]
  • (618 & 620) Off-road grip increase = [88] to [150]

The Trackmaniac

Buggy [ROAD]: Trackmaniac

The fastest buggy around and some would say more capable that its muscle-car rivals. Its smaller size does make it easier to overtake in races where your opponents are blocking you. There aren't that many noticeable changes to the handling of this vehicle, and the ground resistance alterations are minimal. However it does receive quite a considerable off-road grip increase to prevent it getting stuck and aimlessly sliding about if you go off track.

  • (153) Off-road resistance increase = [40] to [50]
  • (323) On-road resistance increase = [8] to [10]
  • (617 & 619) On-road grip decrease = [210] to [200]
  • (618 & 620) Off-road grip increase = [90] to [150]

I need to bump this (too bad that the game is so unpopular).

You have described everything except for the 1 basic thing - where to edit handling (file name and location)?

I want to edit handling myself.

thanks.
