You wouldn't belive that this is actually Quake I map but running Darkplaces engine. Looks awesome, check the framerate though. Back in 2007 my comp couldn't perform any better, though.

6 fps in 07 with everything turned on it appears, right - these days most hardware would let dp run this at 30 fps plus - easily.

30 fps on this crappy scene is truly amazing for modern times.

I was curious, so I loaded up the HD pack (v1.45) I have installed: Moddb.com
I dont have the same rtlights I think. 60 fps without the enforcer firing lasers.

There is a ton going on here. 64x64 256 color mips have an override of 256x256 to 1024x1024, 16M color TGA. And possible bump, gloss and luma channels.
The water is a shader with warp and reflection. Dynamic lights and shadows are turned on.

With the highest res gfx, all particle effects turned on and a large map it is still possible to whammy the FPS.
One time I loaded _only_ the texture overrides and particle effects with the quake-hack dungeon demo.
FPS hit rock bottom in no time.

In a modern engine plus modern hardware and such a scene you get more like 600 FPS now, just to give some kind of benchmark.
