*UPDATED TUTORIAL. EXPLAINED IN TUTORIAL* This is a tutorial for STALKER: Shadows of Chernobyl which guides you through the entire process of importing a basic modelled, animated and configured weapon into STALKER. The tutorial is in PDF format and is 26 pages long, but do not fear, it mainly consist of pictures as it is easier to follow tutorial with pictures than it is to follow one without. The tutorial took me about 14 hours all up to complete. I spent a day writing the tutorial and then a few hours the next day polishing the tutorial up so that it is much easier to read and follow, as well as navigate. The tutorial has a contents menu all with links to pages, so you have no need to scroll and search for a page you were at previously. Nor do you have to scroll back up to the contents in case you go to the wrong page. Once you have done the tutorial, I can guaruntee that you will know how to import your own modelled and animated weapons into stalker successfully.

Thats a Very smooth tutorial you've made there. I wish I was a modeler so I could make some weapons. I love stalker. Great work.
and if you want something thats awsome practice with blender. or something better get 3ds max if you dont want to pay for it then get a torrent version but it's really useful when you want to make a good looking model. :) i hope you gathered a bit from what i said good luck.
If you wish you were a modeller, then by all means, I will guide you to the right places.
3d buzz is the first place I will mention it is fantastic:

It has plenty of free training video's to help you get started, and will even teach you pretty much EVERYTHING that you need to know to help you with modding UT2004.
And if you have the money, you can buy training DVD's from Gnomon and 3d Tutors.
I prefer Gnomon though.
I am not the worlds greatest modeller, I am still learning all the time, but I am not just a modeller. I am a skinner, (now doing rigging and animation now that I know it's not that difficult, it's just tedious). I also do texture art, audio and music creation, concept art etc.
It took me 2 years to get where I am now, and I started with 3d modelling. You can easily do it as well. I had severe depression for more than those 2 years and I still learnt what I wanted to learn, so you can do it too :) Anybody can. You've just gotta set your mind to it.
and if you dont have the money... gfxnews.ru is your source, torrent site, with everything related to the professional 3D modeling and animations, apps, tutorials, and all training videos...
yeh just about the same it took me about a year to get to a average level of 3d modelling and i want to work as one in a gaming industry. possibly 2K games they have some pretty impressive games. or maybe bethesda.
thanks alot
ive been wanting to do this for a while
can it be done to clear sky?
I'm not sure what tools are available for Clear Sky, and I have now stopped developing using the XRay engine since GSC gameworld refuse to help the modding community.
I believe that the same can be done with Clear sky however with some adaption.
The tools work the exact same, only some modelling conventions change from game to game.
In Call of Pripyat, the hand models are kept seperate from the weapon models. Not sure how it works in CS.
Ah, that's ok then, I didn't think that this tutorial would apply to later versions of the game, but it's good to know GSC haven't gone out of their way to make modding life too hard since the original STALKER.
I'll probably be writing up a weapon importing tutorial for crysis soon aswell, since i'm doing a mod for crysis (I won't say what until it's ready to be released) as a practise for my C++ programming and to keep my 3d modelling, animation, skinning, rigging, texturing, sound/audio,etc etc etc skills up to scratch, however first I have to figure out how to import weapons to crysis myself though.
Hello. I am a HUGE fan of STALKER. Recently For Shadow of chernobyl. .05 i am playing the Oblivion Lost 2.2+RC1 Weapons mod. Well this mod adds ALOT of fantastic weapons. but recently i have been wanting more. while playing Fallout new vegas i was using my most loved modded sidearm. the 13mm combat pistol "Jackal" from the anime "Hellsing" how hard would it be to take said Gun mod from Fallout New vegas , and convert it for SoC? Oblivion lost adds .50 cal ammo. so setting it to fire such ammo i figure wouldent be TOO hard. it comes with its own animations and iron sights. Any idea's? If anyone has any idea's for this and if willing to help me. please contact me at my personal email at : AestuoMichael@hotmail.com
please help me each time i export the skin with maya it will only export the mesh but not the bones!!!please help me!!!!

If I don't want to make the hand animations for an assault rifle I made, can i just replace an existing assault rifle with it in the game, that way the weapon will just be replaced in the hands of my character?
