The S.T.A.L.K.E.R. games never really had any effective anti-aliasing methods, and the ones that were there were overly expensive.
This is to be expected when you consider that the X-Ray engine has a deferred renderer which are notoriously difficult to anti-alias, at least that's how it was back then.
The best way to anti-alias a game like this is using a temporal method, which is something I always wanted to see in S.T.A.L.K.E.R, and now I've made an effective Reshade preset for just that.
So, in the zip you'll find the reshade-shaders folder that you can simply extract into your game bin folder after installing DXVK and Reshade.
In terms of performance, I've been testing it on 4k and it is quite expensive, so I reduced the Motion Vector quality to half-res, so if you use it on a lower res you might wanna try setting it to full res instead to reduce any artifacts in motion.
Please post your performance results below so others can get an idea of how it runs.
Files required (credits):
1. Newest version of Reshade (I used 5.8.0) Reshade.me
2. DXVK (I used 2.0) Github.com
3. qUINT motion vectors Gist.github.com
4. TFAA Github.com
Simple Installation:
1. Copy files d3d9 and dxgi from dxvk-2.x > x32 to the bin folder in your STALKER directory
2. Run Reshade Setup, click browse and browse to your STALKER'S bin folder and choose the XR_3DA.exe file, click next and choose Vulkan
4. When on step Select preset to install, click browse and choose my STALKER_TAA.ini preset
5. Extract reshade-shaders folder from my zip to your STALKER bin folder
Manual Installation:
1. Copy files d3d9 and dxgi from dxvk-2.x > x32 to the bin folder in your STALKER directory
2. Run Reshade Setup, click browse and browse to your STALKER'S bin folder and choose the XR_3DA.exe file, click next and choose Vulkan
3. When on step Select preset to install, click browse and choose my TAA_Stalker preset
4. Click next, and select the qUINT effects under SweetFX which should already be selected
4. Now that your game's running in Vulkan and Reshade has installed all its required fx, you must go to your STALKER bin folder and find the reshade-shaders folder
5. Next, you'll place the qUINT_motionvectors.fx file into the reshade-shaders > Shaders folder
6. You'll now do the same with the TFAA.fx and TFAAUI.fxh files found in the ReshadeTFAA-main file that you downloaded earlier
Tips:
Set Reshade to performance mode for better latency, and use commands r_tf_mipbias and r2_tf_mipbias for improved texture sharpness in the distance by setting them both to -0.5
I tried to install this as per the instructions, but upon attempting to launch the game, the game window wouldn't appear. I uninstalled and reinstalled my game, and made sure that it would run before installing the reshade again, instead following the Simple instructions, and still the game wouldn't launch. Perhaps this doesn't work with the GOG version of Shadow of Chernobyl?
Game does not launch from step 1.
