Description

Expansion Series - includes a new Flagship of the Titan class. This ship is massive but slow, only a single Titan ship can be in-play at one time. There is also a Capitalship known as a Dreadnought, a very large and powerful Capitalship that once at level six or beyond can be upgraded into a Super-Dreadnought. Dreadnought's are automatically and repeatedly built by a special factory ... only one unique factory is made available for each player at the start of the game. Also included in the expansion series are more aggressive Pirates capable of colonizing. Finally beware of dangerous asteroids which fill the gravity well of various planets, they can severely damage fleets through collisions.

ummm, sorry but your idea of what "balance" is is not too good.. case-in-point.

I played a small/random game as nor... the over strong pirates were 2 systems away from my home planet and at a choke point.... I couldn't get out to build anything.... not balanced!

Then I played as the cators, small/random i got to go out a bit, but your initial pirate strength... 4 pirate battleships, 14 cruisers, 10 others 10 planet killers... all that within 4 minutes of game play????

No way that is balanced. Oh and then there is the actual opponent... same time in game, he has titan, 2 dreads and a cap ship, cruisers and 15 frigs in 2 separate fleets???? wtf? again that isn't balanced!

I'm not impressed with this update, in fact i'm gonna reduce what i think of your mod by 1. This is really bad man and i loved your earlier versions.

maybe you should tell us which race to start with in version 8.

Hi mikey1871,
Thanks for the feedback.
Unless there is something I don't know about
1. I haven't touch the pirates in R8
2. Dreads are spawned 45mins into the game, so when you say 4 minutes I'm not sure what's going on.

PS: anyone else see this behavior?

45 minutes??? no way. I got a titan really quickly, like before i could get the free cap ship built and for years i've made the free cap as soon as i could get the cap factory built.

Maybe the 4 minutes is slightly off, but i know the opponent had the strengths i mentioned before the first "Auto-save" for each game occurred.

so u didn't redo the "randon-small" map? hummm, i know it's random generated, but i had never seen it be this one sided in the favor of the AI.

I'm gonna try it again and i'll just make my own small map and see what happens.

thanks for replying and not being mad at me :)

Couple of points
For R8, Titans and Dreads are the same as R7
1. Everyone gets a Titan straight away. I suggest you build a capitalship factory quickly and you put your first cap in the queue, that way you still get it for free
2. Yes I checked, the Dreads are spawned every 45 mins
3. 'so u didn't redo the "randon-small" map?' ... Nop
4. 'i know the opponent had the strengths i mentioned before the first "Auto-save" for each game occurred.' ... I don't know what to say. I actually test on "randon-small" and "randon-huge" maps and I can't say I've seen this behavior.

"thanks for replying and not being mad at me :) " ... its actually great to see someone passionate about Sins.
Thanks for the opportunity to address some of your concerns

please fix the pirates!!!!!!

3rd autosave into a dangerout tides (M) game. i'm tec, opponents r ur 3 races... everyone is getting pounded by the damn pirates.. they are way too damn strong. they have 4 flippin planets each time they launch a raid it's with 4-5 cap ships 20 some cruisers and more frigates.

I'm the strongest with titan 7 dread 7 cap 5 10 carriers, 12 kodiacks 25 attack frigs and i'm getting my *** kicked. the pirates already took out an AI opponent.

Please reduce the pirates offensiveness and soon.

wow, if you test on random-small.... i must be just getting really stupid randomizations. Pirates seem to be twice as strong as anyone else in the game. including the human player.

also could u balance the tec player... he can't really improve shields much past 20%.. that's not cool. that is a disadvantage that hurts.

thanks for the challenge though :P

The pirates have been a touchy issue in diplomacy and the original developers had to back them off a number of times in the patches based on players feedback.

Just remember that for each version of Maelstrom (O,E,D) the pirates behave differently and as such it takes a lot of testing to get just right.

Personally I use the pirates as a weapon against opponents, at least early on, and it all depends on which map you are playing as to how irritating they can be.

I have lost planets to them when I am not prepared. Also mid-to-late game they are not particularly effective just a distraction.

Yeah... I've played on a few maps now with this... and the Titan can spawn pretty quickly. So do the dreadnaughts. I think you need to set the respective stations' antimatter pools to be MUCH higher than around 30000 if you want it to go for 45 minutes.

Though I can't say anything about the Replicators wiping everything out. I played at least 2 maps with all AI at the same difficulty... and one time the Cators took a system before being defeated by a joint effort of the Advent and Alliance... and the second time, they were completely wiped out by the TEC alone.

The cooldown and antimatter are both set to spawn at 45 mins intervals. However, I believe the very first dread might spawn at 45/2 mins. Unfortunately I can't test as I'm 're-building' my computer .

While your opinion is your own your examples only included small random matches where the players are going to be condensed and you yourself also recieve titans and dreds at the same rate as the other players so in reality you seem to just be mad that you are losing at a very specific set of circumstances.

do you need to have both the base maelstrom mod and the expansion activated in order for it to work? Thanks.

there is no way... there wasn't anyone for him to fight to get to that skill level and the effing titan killed my entire ******* fleet at my best defended planet!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i've also gotten shield up to max and armor to 2.4 and hull to max for 5 mil posts. Something is very wrong.

WRONG !
recheck what you call balancing... and i was redoing this crap various ways to win on auto save 3

A good way to up the experience of a Titan is to send them into new planets to take on the Militia and the 'Dangerous Asteroids', also to hit or be hit by the pirates.

Are you sure you're not a turtler?

well, i fixed the balance. i just made copies of the files i wanted to change for the race i wanted to play... so far just the norlamin. Boosted them a bit and now at least i dont get too hammered by the pirates. I still get opponents having titans at level 8 when they havent been to too many planets.

One question though... how many dreads will the game allow before it stops delivering them? I'm up to -5 for cap crews hehe.

I know this might sound weird, but I had to learn where some of the abilites are in the game to have a chance of winning today. Thanks, you made me learn more about modding today :)

I havent played the vasari or the advent. have you modified their techs yet?

Wow. Really? That's funny because I just finished playing R8 with 6 AI at the hardest difficulty and me as the Trade Alliance. Pirates on. Normal Fleet supply. Huge multi-system. in 10 hours total. It was quit rough, no lie. A lot of mouse clicking in panic was had. In fact, I just finished a little bit ago and wanted to drop a compliment on an other good release just to stumble upon your comments. Funny how you, with the exact same game, and the exact same mod, are having such problems... And just about every one else, isn't... Could be the balancing... or Maybe you just need to learn how to micro manage a little better and quit blaming the mod that every one else has few problems with. Most of the issues you're whining about don't exist. And the couple points out of your whole list of complaints that might be arguable, aren't nearly as bad as you make them out to be. soase-maelstrom is very polite and professional on his boards. but I'm not. So long story short you suck at sins and it's not the games fault. Oh, and there's no limit on dreads. Because you should be using them. And by the time they start building up, you should be just about to win. /end_rant

'I know this might sound weird, but I had to learn where some of the abilites are in the game to have a chance of winning today. Thanks, you made me learn more about modding today :)' ... and that my friend is what Sins is about! More power to you!

"I havent played the vasari or the advent. have you modified their techs yet?" ... the original races are my gold standard. The new races are the ones I alter to match the 'originals'

i have only played your new races... usually just the norlamins. I like them alot. I didn't know that about the pirates and the asteroids. that would explain about the titan 8's hehe.. thanks :)

Sorry if i get too passionate in my comments. I'm a very passionate person. And no, i'm not a hugh fan of micro-management anymore haha, But thank you, 11NOV4D3 for your realistic comments :)

well, if the originals are your "gold Standard" i'm gonna have to make a nice 40-50 planet single star map with just one of your races and one of the originals and see how your races stack up against the originals. i think your new ones will win easily, but well have to see.

Thanks for the pirates though, they are a challenge and yeah, i can see the strategic advantage to sending them to other races... i like the idea of sending them to one race while u bash another one hehe

Another interesting test is to start a huge random map with ten players. Play as the Replicators, have every race represented at least once and lock teams. Then just build up a few core planets, well defended, and with Starbases. Research antimatter-converters, with a good defensive fleet and then go away and let the game play for several hours. See who takes who out, also you can speed the game up x2, x4 (x8 maybe a bit fast).

i'm gonna have to try that one. I'll have to reset the norlamins back to your settings though. unless you think my upgrade would make the replicators and norlamins give a neat flavor to the game. I'll have to try that too.

Desura is out of my hands, and currently is limited to what it can install i.e Maelstrom is for Original, Entrenchment and Diplomacy, but Desura can only be setup for one of these and the Desura team chose Diplomacy Standard. So, yes just download expansion series here.
