Scott Thomas and Colin Chamberlin founded Papalati Games in 2012 after deciding they had a lot more time during their day job than they thought. So they set off on the adventure of a lifetime and started to make a game. They’ve always wanted to make games, but Scott lacked the programming experience and Colin on the artistic side of things. However, fate itself decided that the two of them should no longer be separated and has brought them together to let them unleash their creative genius upon the world. First they had to prove to each other that this newly formed union would be able to actually create a game in tandem; so they set out on discovering what kind of game did they want to make to get their feet wet. Scott brought up that text-adventure games never really went away and that he was always fond of the choose your own adventure novels as a kid, but had a problem with the fact that he never reached the end of those books and always made the wrong choice and died. So, he asked Colin what if we made a game like this, but had a way for the player to cheat death or get out of making a bad choice that leads to death. Colin agreed on the game and PALIDIN | The Ghalidir Chronicles was born. For five months we worked on PALIDIN creating originally for the Windows Phone platform. We completed it in late October of 2012 and submitted it to Microsoft for certification. Needless to say we were rejected multiple times, not only due to our inexperience at the time, but also because Microsoft’s Certification process is not independent studio friendly despite them saying otherwise. Eventually the game was released late November to initially mixed reviews.
