HollywoodFX (HFX) is an addon for Anomaly v1.5.1 that improves the in-game impact effects and makes them more Hollywood-like. With this addon, dust, smoke, and debris, will now fly around, bounce off surfaces, and linger in the air, meant to increase the intensity during firefights within the game.

HollywoodFX v2.0 video showcase:
HollywoodFX v2.0:
This addon essentially improves the detail of many of the impact particle effects in-game. The addon was originally designed to improve "over-the-top" Hollywood-esque effects, but more "realistic" or "minimalist" options are included as well for those who want the particle detail, but not the over-excessiveness. Therefore, there are three particle options included in the addon: MinimalFX, RealisticFX, and HollywoodFX.
v2.0 Change Log:
- Requirements:
- HFX v2.0 is now a standalone addon, you no longer need "Particles Remade" addon installed and it is no longer required.
- Compatibility:
- HFX v2.0 is compatible and tested with vanilla Anomaly v1.5.1
- HFX v2.0 is compatible and tested with vanilla Anomaly v1.5 [Beta 3.0] Update 4 Hotfix 8
- HFX v2.0 is compatible and tested with "Boomsticks & Sharpsticks" (version 1.5.1)
- Additions:
- Improved the visuals of the metal impact effects
- Improved the visuals of the asphalt, brick, concrete, stucco, and wood impact effects
- Fixes:
- Fixed a few "odd" and unwanted particle effects in a few particle groups
- Fixed the transparency of some specific particle effects in a few particle groups
- File structure of addon was rearranged to make installation more straightforward
- Performance:
- Reduced the particle count of some impact effects while maintaining similar visuals
- Notes:
- The "frags" in lethal grenades were reduced by a factor of 2 to improve performance
- Note: "frag" count of grenade can be modified in their .ltx config files
- Ending comments from the author:
- If you find any problems or crashes and suspect HFX to be the cause please let me know in the comments section and provide:
- error/crash message or description of the problem if applicable
- screenshot/video (optional, this will help if it is a visual bug)
- your version of Anomaly, and any significant addons installed
Options:
There are three options of particles for this addon:
HollywoodFX (high) - The original particles for this addon and the way this addon was meant to be played, excessive debris and dust will fly and linger around, recommended for those who want that "over-the-top" Hollywood-like effects. Fair warning though, the lingering smoke after firefights may make spotting or targeting an enemy more difficult in enclosed spaces, this creates a different type of challenging element for game-play in firefights.
RealisticFX (med) - The reduced version of HollywoodFX option, less debri and dust will fly around but will still linger, recommended for those who want toned-down relatively realistic effects.
MinimalFX (low) - Same as RealisticFX option, the only change here is that smoke will no longer linger, recommended for those who prefer more improved, better-looking, "vanilla" like particles.
Requirements:

**** YES!
oh damn I was not prepared for this beauty
The true king of FX is back!
Very nice work!
If I knew how to work with particles.xr file, I'd merge it with VFX mod. For now it's one or the other..
Can I install over old Hollywood FX?
yes
Hi I have a question regarding how to benefit from the anomaly effect of CinemaVfx with this mod.
Do I load this mod before or after? any drawbacks/benefits to doing one over the other?
it`s one or another, the other mod will overwrite the particle.xr so the other won`t work. You have to merge both particle.xr inorder to make it work
ty for answer
Has anyone found out yet what's the problem with and how to fix the engine bug that causes the flickering particles?
last i'd heard thats just part of the game, unsure if there are plans to fix it - does this mod have lots of noticeable flickering? ty
On grenade explosions and other bigger particle clouds it is pretty noticeable, in daytime clear weather moreso. I wonder what actually went wrong there?
Greetings Schuchart,
I have tested for this particle "jitter" effect on my Anomaly v1.5.1 with "clear1" weather preset and on multiple brightness/lighting settings, with the DX11 render.
I have noticed that there is indeed a "jittering effect" on larger particles, mainly from the "grenade-impact" particle effect, however, on my end, it is very subtle and not really noticeable (unless you are specifically looking for it), this is mainly due to the fact that the smoke from the grenade-explosion particles are fairly transparent, which helps mitigate or lessen the actual jittering effect experienced visually by the user, but I also suspect that the "subtleness" of the jitter effect could change with respect to a user's graphical settings or render used.
As far as the actual "jitter" problem itself goes, it appears it was introduced in Anomaly v1.5.1, and would likely be related to the underlying engine, which, I imagine, is essentially "out-of-the-hands" of any addon or addon creator.
Regardless, thank you for your concern and support!
Sure mate, love your addon to the bone!
I read the same on the Cinematic VFX addon page by jdud, he elaborated a little on the matter. I was wondering if there would be some more insights into this (or a possible fix) if I asked here provided that maybe one of the devs was floating around or somebody else here or you would know. I am curious to what happened there as much on a technical side as on the graphics-spoilt-gamer side of course.
first of all this addon ROCKS...I LOVE IT...and second of all a very detailed and precise description so you know what it does and where to install, compatibility etc...as very few addons has this...GOOD JOB
Still the best VFX but is there any chance to reduce the smoke/dust fade out time?
Greetings Krieger,
HFX v2.0 has "RealisticFX" and "MinimalisticFX" particle options included for those who prefer less smoke/dust to linger, or prefer no smoke/dust to linger.
You can try these other options out as they may be better suited for your taste.
Awesome update, I was waiting for a version that incorporates heat blur when firing the weapon, before I had to use the BaS's particles.fx for that, and that disabled HollywoodFX effects.
Could you maybe bundle gamedata with all three options? So it's just choose one and install, and could also be used with MO2 BAIN installer?
Greetings Agitatio,
HFX v2.0 has now been updated with this new file structure. It should be even more straight-forward now to install HFX v2.0 as you only need to simply pick a particle option and install, for both manual and "mod-manager" installation.
Thank you for the helpful feedback!
hi there, can you tell me how to edit the particle.xr file, like what programm you use?
Greetings,
The particle editor is included in the X-Ray 1.6 Engine SDK v0.7

thx alot
Thank you very much for the addon.
I'm using Realistic option and noticed that dust animation disappears for a moment. Example in the link below.
Would it be possible to make it smooth? Thank you.

Greetings LongZero,
Yes, I believe it is caused by the "jittering" issue that was introduced in Anomaly v1.5.1. as I never encountered this issue in my 100+ hours of playtime with HFX on v1.5 U4H8. I rechecked all the particle groups once more in the editor and they all play smoothly from start to finish. It is a known issue in the community; however, it would require working on the underlying engine to fix, which only the devs can do.
Hopefully this gave some insight
All clear now, thank you for your reply.
Bro, please remake anomalies aswell and make Cinemavfx redundant
ty in advance<3
Where are the MAIN files?!?
Greetings,
The "main" files (I assume you are referring to the "gamedata" folder) are inside each of the OPTION folders (HollywoodFX, RealisticFX, and MinimalisticFX).
To manually install, extract the "gamedata" folder from the particle option you want (HollywoodFX, RealisticFX, or MinimalisticFX) to your Anomaly game folder and overwrite.
To install using JSGME mod manager, "Apply" or "Load" the particle option you want (HollywoodFX, RealisticFX, or MinimalisticFX).
Hopefully this resolved any issues you might be having, enjoy!
Do you have a changelog for todays update?
Greetings,
The history of changes are posted in my first reserved comment on this page.
The update was to make HFX v2.0 more compatible with the newest version of BaS (1.5.1 version) as well as other addons.
Hopefully this cleared things up, enjoy!
The bouncing sparks look really good
Thank you for the update.
I was comparing items_explosives.ltx in order to merge it with other explosives related mods, and I found that in some items,
"script_binding = item_mine.add_actor_mine"
has been changed to
"script_binding = m_mines.add_actor_mine"
I can understand if it's a simple number change, but I'm not familiar with the program at all, so I have no idea what role this plays. Would you be able to tell me?
Greetings utsubo,
You can just overwrite this file, "items_explosives.ltx", when installing whatever addon you want, it is not a big deal. The only change I made in that "items_explosives.ltx" file was that I set every line that reads "frags" to 0 (for performance reasons).
You can overwrite the file from installing the other addon(s) you want, and then go back into the file and change each "frags" line to equal 0 and there should be no problems, it will then be considered successfully "merged".
Hopefully this was helpful and cleared things up on your end
Thank you for your reply. However, I must confess that I am not convinced.
Since you said "the only change", I thought maybe the file I used as a basis for comparison was wrong, but when I unpacked Anomaly 1.5.1.2 again and compared it with HollywoodFX_v2.0.2, the script_binding is also changed.
Is this an unintended change?
Or is it an intended change, but the value of script_binding can be either?
I looked into the issue,
HFX v2.0.2 was using an outdated version of the "items_explosives.ltx" file, thus the reason why the script_bindings, along with other lines, were differing from the vanilla values unpacked from Anomaly v.1.5.1.
I just uploaded a new version of HFX (v2.0.3) that uses the correct file version of "items_explosives.ltx" from Anomaly 1.5.1 with my changes to the frags line only.
However, if you have another addon you wish to install over HFX that modifies the "items_explosives.ltx" file, you will still need to do a manual merge with this file. This can be done by just overwriting the "items_explosives.ltx" file from HFX v2.0.3 with the other addon you are wanting to install. Then you can go into the "items_explosives.ltx" file and modify each "frags" line and set them all to 0.
This should clear everything up, just let me know.
Confirmed. Now, everything is ok! Thank you very much for taking care of the minor corrections.
I’m coming from COC over to anomaly and this is amazing.
What weapon pack are you using in the screenshots? Would love to run that.
Greetings cortlong50,
The "weapons pack" addon I am using in the screenshots and video is the "Boomsticks & Sharpsticks" (version 1.5.1) addon, which HFX v2.0 is fully compatible with. Give it a try:

Enjoy!
if you play on DX8 and use this mod with Winter mod game will crash they are not work together
There is a compability patch in winter mod for this one. You are supposed to overwrite it
Thank you for making this super easy to install, the way it's structured is very nice
