A large CTF Map set in a nighttime high-tech Winter setting. Originally released with FoT5 in 2008.
A reupload of the original CTF-FoT-Selket (originally released with FoT5 in 2008)
I had a lot of inspiration from Unreal Championship 2, which is the best UT game besides UT99 in my opinion. Many of the maps had that hardcore feeling but looked colorful and rich. I wanted to transfer some of the designs into UT as I had done with DM-Maris. This map dragged me away from my old stale design concepts that I threw overboard with this map, and it worked excitingly well. Looking back, I think very few things could have been done different but it's alright the way it is.
Selket turned out a very original map besides its layout similarities with CTF-ViperPit (UC2) as I added in a lot of w00tish Jumppads and generally overhauled the whole middle section and large parts of the bases have been overhauled to fit the other UT gameplay. There's a good trade of new routes to be explored, and the new theme is looking quite fresh.
I know a lot of people complained about the lighting, but I really like the atmosphere going on, even if it is a little dark. I don't mind.
The map wouldn't have been possible without the help of many, many people who contributed to this project making it what it is. These are mostly textures, but a few kind souls also helped me overcome the bounds of UT once again. First of all, there is Revelation who was doing the Skybox and aligned the Jumppads with the Particleeffects, there is FnB who worked out the botpathing as he is the dude behind the ultralarge projects of OrionsCurse and -Revenge, which are both even more difficult in
terms of pathing. And yeah, there is CyberSirius who converted the music for me, and Wolf who helped with a reactor script from Styx.
Selket is a very fast paced, very offensive map with little defense possibilities. I won't say it isn't possible as it would be wrong. You are having a lot of routes at different heightlevels and the itemplacement is offensively except for the Rocketlauncher which has been left for defense so you aren't completely stripped down. This makes for frantic matches with lots of Z-Axis although the map doesn't have so
much of it alltogether.
