:DESCRIPTION:
A remake of the classic Bomb-omb battlefield level from the Nintendo 64 game "Super Mario 64".
Originally, I tried to create an exact replica, however, due to the nintendo 64's limits, it was very jagged with it's maps, and I couldn't replicate that here, so I did things like they should be done, and the map turned out pretty well I think.
I made this for all game types as usual, and tried to place spawn points strategically for the CTD game mode. However it may appear as though the uprising game mode is unbalanced, which it may be, but I did not really care much for adding that game mode, and not much thought was put into the placement of the capture points.
Anyway, enjoy the map, and add your feedback.
There may be a few minor things in this map which I probably could have done better, but, I just feel like some closure on this map right now.
This was in super Mario 64?
It's the first level you play in the game, you can't recognise it?
Spooboy
I think it was the first level you get to when you leave the little castle courtyard, but I can't be sure; it's been ages since I played that game.
I can see why it may not be too recognizable, it was an old game, however, for those who do remember playing it will recognize straight away. I let my cousin play it without him knowing what the map was and he said "this looks like one of the levels from mario 64"...since he's a bit of a nintendo fan.
But anyway, as grimezy15 and zahlenbechk said, it's the first level that you play in super mario 64.
dude your right I can see it straight away. white spot left down corner is the start the first bridge with a red box than the bullet dog don't know his name, than you go over the second bridge that's not stable and than in a koopa garden with a 3e cannon than you go upstairs with the balls and than the big boss man I want this map for the 360 :D.
:P But can't you download these maps for 360? I thought you could
Oh wow, nice! It took me a few minutes to realize what this was! Great recreation!
Yeah i can see it now...
That's great. If you know it's from Mario it's easily recognizable, but until then you really have to be looking. Looks fantastic!
NEW VERSION OUT. If you downloaded it before, the new version just fixed up a little un-noticable but large mistake, aswell as made some areas look a tad better. I added some rocks to one of the plain areas just up above the big ball chain cave too for cover.
Hmmm...I think what would make this more recognizable is some bomb-ombs and that big Chomp on a chain :p
TEN. i love this map, you did very well!! :D believe it or not, i have always wanted to play old non FPS maps (like this) in a FPS game :D
This map was made for shooting :P ten haha this is a ten.
Thank JudeTrend, I think I could probably add a few more bits of cover in there, but at the moment it's fine for multiplayer.
Not exactly the level from Super Mario 64.
not exactly a backed up critique.
noooo really? You think? lol.
It's impossible to make it EXACTLY like the level from super mario 64. But anyway..here is the reference image I used.

Right now, this map is about as close as you're going to get to the super mario 64 bomb-omb battlefield map using the far cry 2 engine and objects.
The only real big differences is that I used rocks for the Chomp cave instead of that concrete stuff, the cliff doesn't have those little alcoves where boulders roll out of, the floating island has a bridge going to it rather than having a cannon shoot the person to it or a hang glider fly to it (bad idea, I tried it).
Oh and I'm missing the little mushroom head things running around and the floating blocks, cannons and so on.
As well as a bunch of other stuff that really didn't make the map stand out.
So which part didn't you recognize exactly?
Did you ever play Super Mario 64?
Did you? lol
Mate, I had to in order to make this map ;)
I would like you to elaborate on what you mean by "Not exactly the level from super mario 64"...It CAN'T be exact, like I've already explained.
And if you think you can do better in less time, then by all means, go for your life.
So Did I. But If You that is your copy of that map you need more green grass & trees.
The original mario 64 map didn't have many trees at all ;).
While it's easy to just spam the crap out of the map with grass and trees, I was also trying to keep it to being recognizable, and the original map only had very few trees, hence why this isn't a jungle like you're suggesting to make.
I can see the benefits of adding more trees for cover and such, but as I said, the original didn't have that many trees.
I can upload a version with trees to the Far Cry 2 addons later with some rocks and other cover, but it simply won't feel the same.
