This is a launcher for The Witcher 3 In both design and functionality it is pretty close to what the Witcher 2's Launcher could do.

Witcher 3 Modding Tools Out Now! Now what are we going to to with them? Having fun I'd say!

Posted by on

I've been waiting for this for quite a while now, but there we go. We've just received the first portion of modding tools for The Witcher 3. And it's a lot of fun to work with them. But who am I to write this news:

Released today, the Modkit enables Witcher community to modify several aspects of the game to their own liking. Thanks to texture import and export, gamers can now modify the looks and feel of in-game objects, while the possibility of substituting meshes allows to insert new models in the game world in place of existing ones. Finally, access to script files opens up an entirely new array or modification options to many in-game aspects, so modders can fire up their imagination and fiddle with item statistics and much more. In order to download the Modkit, head on over to nexusmods.com, the official home of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt mods where you can download the extractor itself as well as some of the existing mods. Don’t forget to check our forums for the Modkit documentation. We simply cannot wait to see all the fantastic creations from the modding community. Should you have any additional questions regarding the capabilities of the kit, make sure to check out GameSpot’s Q&A.

That's the official announcement found on CDProjekt's homepage. You can also download the Modkit directly from ModDB:

And If rumours are right they even are looking into bringing mod support to PS4 and XboxOne, but don't quote me on that - that's just the forums babbling. So but what does that mean for this project? Gopher - a well known Fallout and Skyrim mod maker and Youtuber showed the important parts in his new video:

The important part is the quick show off on how the mod installing and enabling works. This basically allows me to create several useful functions as there are:

  • Quick and easy downloading via Nexus directly into the launcher
  • Easy backup creation
  • Quick (un-)installing of mods from the launcher by simply ticking a checkbox

And the best part:

  • Mod and savegame profiling.

And that's "all" folks, might not read much, but will proof very useful later on, who does not love managing all relevant stuff from within one tool? That's basically my plan for the next weeks to come. Of course I'm gonna keep you updated, but until then, have fun!
