In the wake of despair left by Stronghold 3, I have decided that it is time for a few good SH2 mods, since this is an area which is sorely lacking. Imperium Condita is a roman modification of Stronghold 2. This mod will include: Better textures and graphics Historical military units New historical music Historical factions Changed game mechanics (i.e. Honor becomes Glory) Different voice acting (eventually) A new campaign New maps And much more on the way. I understand that SH2 is an older game, but it is still loved by many, and it has great bones for modders. This is an experiment to see whether the gaming community is interested in SH2 mods anymore. Feedback is greatly appreciated.

This is to help me figure out whether to use crossbows, or javelins.

The purpose of this article, is to get a general opinion of which you, the players, would like to see more of in this mod. Currently, I am working towards a very balanced approach on how to divvy up the units. I've tried to make as many of the different troop types, as universal as possible. However, I am having a difficult time with regards to one unit in particular. The vanilla crossbowman has a short range, fast reload time, and packs a punch. There are 2 options for this unit. Javelin man, or a crossbowman. Both have advantages and disadvantages. Historically, there was a crossbow used during the ancient times. This was the Gastraphetes. This was considerably larger than the traditional medieval crossbow, and was loaded differently. Though they did exist and were used throughout the Mediterranean, from what I can tell, they were not found in large numbers, and were primarily used by the Greeks. The other option is a javelin man. Universal to a fault, they match the short range and powerful damage of the vanilla game. It would be easy to change this unit to throw javelins, and it would definitely span every culture within the game. However, the outlaw units also throw a javelin, which means that they might not be so useful in the game. So the question is, which would you rather see? A unique historical unit, or a more balanced and probable unit? Please let me know in the comments. If you have suggestions for other units in the game, I'm all ears. I've basically got everything the way I want it, but if I like your suggestion, I might use it.
