Welcome to the preview of BASE 0.1 update for Space Marine Augmented! The upcoming update introduces a large number of changes, primarily to the user interface of the loadout customizer. But first start with the long-anticipated changes for Ground Assault class
Ground Assault
Now the Ground Assault class is made a separate class in the list of classes, and the switcher perk between JPA and GA has been removed as unnecessary.
After the separation of GA and JPA, the lists of their perks were also separated and now show only the perks of their own classes. You no longer need to read tags to understand which subclass the perk belongs to.
Instead of a fixed devastator backpack, GA now uses a regular backpack. Instead of JPA leap, GA now uses a roll from a Tac.
Customizer
- Buttons (?) have been added to the class menu to view the description classes and bands of characteristics that were previously only available for weapons and equipment. Now it should be easier for players to understand the characteristics of classes and learn their features.
- The description screen itself has also been redesigned for classes, weapons and equipment, which has increased the amount of available text on the screen, allowing to describe entities in more detail. The descriptions themselves will be processed separately later.
- Previously, there was a problem with the buttons (?) for viewing the description of weapons, which did not allow reading the description starting from the 8th weapon, since the original game did not provide scrolling of the list of weapons and equipment, because there were never more than 7 available options. Now this error has been fixed, and reading the description of all weapons and equipment has become available.
- Another change was the addition of working scroll buttons for lists of weapons and equipment. The buttons appear if there are more than 7 items in the list and work similarly to the scroll buttons in the armor selection menu. In addition to this, the ability to scroll lists with the mouse wheel has been added to all lists in the editor (layouts, armor, colors, emblems, etc.).
- Similar to the JPA/GA subclass switcher perk, the switcher for normal/advanced equipment has been removed. Instead, enhanced versions of equipment were added directly to the equipment list, which should simplify and make the work with equipment more unified.
- When using advanced equipment, the correct name of the equipment is also shown on the right in the customizer and in the match when selecting the loadout.
- The perks menu has also been redesigned. Added blocking of some perks if the required conditions for their use are not met. At the moment, these are two perks: Favor of Mars and True Grit. Favor of Mars can only be used if the Favor of the Armory is already being used. True Grit is only if the use of a pistol is available, i.e. a Hammer is not used, or a Trusty Sidearm perk is used. The specified requirements are displayed instead of the perk description in the perks menu if the conditions are not met.
- Changed the logic of displaying weapon perks. Now only those weapon perks that can be used with the current weapon are shown, all the others are hidden. Choosing the wrong perk should now be impossible
- Redesigned perks that can be used with multiple weapons, such as Heavy Bolter/Autocannon Coolant. Now the icon, name and description of such perks correspond to the selected weapon
- The amount of free space for perk descriptions has also been increased and will be used in the future for a more detailed descriptions.
Limitations
The introduction of the new system brought several temporary technical limitations, which will be corrected later:
- At the moment, Devastator and GA loadouts are called Tactical X, but this is only a visual inconvenience.
- Class badges had to be removed from the right shoulder pad.
- Class icons in the match (in the menu on Tab, upper left corner, etc.) had to be replaced with a universal icon
TODO
Some planned changes have been postponed and will be implemented later:
- Hiding the name and icon of the pistol from the right side of the customizer, as well as the pistol selection button from the left menu when using a hammer without a Trusty Sidearm perk, in order to more clearly show the impossibility of using a pistol with a two-handed weapon.
- Removing loadout division into “default” and “custom”, introducing dynamic names for all of them according to their real classes (Ground Assault 1, etc.)
- Button to hide the interface in the customizer to make screenshots.
P.S.
If you have any notes, recommendations about the news/preview format, leave them in comments
These are very interesting changes, though I have some concerns. While hiding the perks for other weapons does clean up the list significantly and prevent incorrect perk selection, I do often scroll through the perks to other weapons when deciding what I might switch to for a loadout. This means I'll likely be spending more time backing out to switch weapons every time I want to read through the weapon perks when remaking a class. That is more of a personal issue however. A more universal one would be what will happen to our existing ground assault/jump assault classes on update. Will existing ground assaults be automatically turned into the new ground assault class or will they be reverted back to jump assaults? Should we expect our loadouts to be damaged and require resetting?
Good note about weapon perks, thanks.
As for convert, I did not think of it before. We'll see if I can make it in an acceptable time span, if not, you'll have to remake JPAs and GAs by hand indeed x(
pls let GA keep the JPA hop :(
We're thinking about making a switch later, but initially, years ago GA was planned to have roll, just it was impossible before.
Maybe it's just me, but I despised the rolling mechanic in this game. Realistically speaking Marines shouldn't be able to roll around like that. They can dive for cover or jump, but not do a somersault.
Well, that's indeed subjective x)
I dunno, objectively speaking a space marine with a bulky backpack isn't gonna be doing somersaults. I think it's physically impossible. Even in Gears of War the somersaults those guys do is ridiculous with the amount of equipment they have strapped to their back and sides. Witcher 3 looks ridiculous too, he's got two long swords strapped to his back. If he were to try to do a somersault the scabbards would get stuck in the ground. Even Link in Legend of Zelda he's got a shield and a sword strapped to his back and yet he's doing somersaults lol. It looks stupid when you start to think about it because when you start to think about it you realize it's impossible.
Thanks for the analysis! x) sadly can't help anyhow with this opinion. Rolling will remain in the game.
Maybe make it a dash? a slight hover pack could help them cover ground. not to jump. but side or forward dash?
Currently work with animations still involve a lot of manual work, so sadly it won't be an option for a while
The hop was better than the roll.
Glad you liked it. You can still use it on JPA x)
No you can't you use the hop, you use jump pack with the JPA x)
Just try it!
no
Will there be any rework in the weapon qualities and values?
In this update - no, from gameplay changes only GA roll introduction. Then we'll again focus on gameplay changes
When will this update be online?
Currently it's in public beta. If it goes fine, will be updated on normal within several days
