One Point Three

The twentieth anniversary of Battlefield Vietnam's release is here, and so is One Point Three, the mod I set out to create as a celebration of reaching this point.

Much like my other BfVietnam mod, "Operation Remembrance", which is much larger and definitely worth a look if you like Battlefield Vietnam, One Point Three isn't going to be a "one release" mod. I'm already aware of some small bugs and unpolished features in the mod that I simply wasn't able to complete in time for the scheduled release date. My plan is to wait a few months for player feedback to come in and then create a patch to incorporate any worthwhile player suggestions, eliminate remaining bugs, and polish the last few details. Expect that around June, July, or possibly August of this year.

An F-4 Phantom on Operation Flaming Dart, showing off the F-4's new weapon load-out. The pilot gets guided air-to-air missiles and randomly selected bombs, which are either of the high explosive or napalm type, while the new copilot position gets guided air-to-ground missiles and launchable flares to decoy enemy heat-seeking missiles.

However, for the most part, this mod is complete. I have no plans to make any significant updates that add a large amount of content, so I won't be taking requests to "Add Weapon X" or "Include Vehicle Y" in future updates. The whole point of this mod is simply to make the game as good as possible without adding any new content that the original developers didn't make themselves, and only use existing resources in different ways. But having said that, I'm completely open to suggestions for minor fixes or tweaks to make the mod better-balanced or improve gameplay.

One particular warning I'll give is that at the moment, One Point Three is likely not ready for online play. The debugger indicated there were some errors that would probably prevent that, but I didn't have time to fix those issues. That will come in the next update, and the mod will then be ready to be played on servers.

A T-34/85 on Ia Drang Valley. The T-34/85 replaces the PT-76 on certain maps early in the war, and at the very end of the war as well.

Now that One Point Three is finished, I'm planning on taking a break from modding to write, and then I'll primarily be focusing on Operation Remembrance from here on out, apart from the planned One Point Three patch in a few months. That's all for now, everyone. Thanks for dropping by to take a look at my work, and I hope you enjoy One Point Three.

Hi. I downloaded the game. After unzipping all I see is a shortcut and a file folder. The shortcut doesn't open. I don't see a read me text either. any advice? Thanks.

The shortcut goes on your desktop, and the file folder goes in the "Mods" folder in the main "Battlefield Vietnam" folder, which should be in "Programs (x86)/EA Games".
