The DC Universe According to Grey is my love letter to and personal take on the DC Comics Universe. It is a massive, sprawling mod, including literally hundreds of characters, all painstakingly crafted, customized, and balanced, with as much faithfulness and completeness as I could manage, all playable in the sandbox mode of the greatest superhero game of all time, Freedom Force vs. The Third Reich. The mod also includes dozens of maps and over half a dozen different campaigns for a wide variety of DC characters. It’s got a Bronze Age flavor with modern narrative sensibilities, and it is packed with four color heroes. The mod includes everyone from the most famous DC characters, like Batman, to the ridiculously obscure, like...well, all of the Atom's villains! This mod gives you control over some of your favorite superheroes and lets you fight for justice in four color glory! Solve mysteries with Batman, battle undersea foes with Aquaman, or face existential threats with the JLA!

Post news Report RSS Shape the DCUG: Legion Roster

Howdy folks! After a hiatus during the semester when things got crazy busy, I'm back to work on the DCUG, and I want your input! The next phase of development has me tracking down materials for the Legion of Superheroes and adding them into the mod. I'll be releasing an official roster for them soon, but in the interim, I want to know who y'all would really like to see in the mod!

Well folks, I'm back from a self-imposed exile in response to a very difficult semester, and I'm bringing the Legion of Superheroes with me! That's right, the beloved heroes of the far future of the DC Universe are finally coming to the DCUG! I'm hard at work tracking down skins, meshes, and skopes and constructing hero files in perpetration for building them into the mod itself.

I'm having a blast, and I'm learning a ton. While I've read a few Legion stories in my time and almost always enjoyed them, I know far less about these characters than I do about those that inhabit the more mainstream DCU. This was one of my favorite parts about creating the original DCUG, learning about parts of the universe that were new to me, and I'm having a great time with it again.

However, because there is still plenty that I don't know, decades and decades of comics and characters, I want YOUR help!

I'm casting my net pretty wide and am including most of the classic and Bronze Age Legion characters and villains, but if there are any more obscure characters that you want to see, now's your chance to make your voice heard! Put in a vote for your favorite second stringer by posting a comment on this article with your pick and why you think they should be included!

On a more specific note, I'm not huge about putting different versions of the same character in this iteration of the DCUG, so I'm trying to decide what to do with Ayla Ranzz, a.k.a. Light Lass and Lightning Lass. She's had two well-known identities. Which would y'all rather see? Personally, Lightning Lass has always made more sense to me, but Light Lass would obviously be something different, power-wise, rather than just a copy of her brother(s). However, if folks want one over the other, I'm happy to oblige, as it doesn't mean too much to me.

In my opinion you should use Light Lass. It looks like your characters are smack-dab in the center of the Bronze Age. And at that time, Ayla would have been Light Lass. Although Chemical King and Dawnstar were never members at the same time....likewise, Ferro Lad and Invisible Kid I are dead by now. Are you OK with that?

Thanks for the response Russell! Yeah, these guys won't necessarily all be used in the same story at the same time or anything, just all available in the mod for players to mix and match as they like. I tend to take an 'ideal world' type of approach to my roster. I'm taking the team looks and such from the Bronze Age mostly because that's my favorite era and that has my favorite (for the most part) looks for the team. However, I'm not too worried about the particular continuity at a particular moment, and I'm happy enough to mix and match the occasional detail.

Found my way here via your comment on The Legion of Super Bloggers.

I'd say Light Lass, too...for diversity of powers if nothing else. The only characters I can see to add right now would be Chameleon Chief, Spider Girl, and Sun Emperor. They were members of the LSV at this time also.

I look forward to seeing your finished project. You're going to make me get Freedom Force if they have it on Steam.!

Thanks for dropping in and sharing your take, Ken! Great suggestions! I've added them, and a community artist actually just created the artwork for them, so the LSV are good to go (except for Spider Girl, for whom I don't have great artwork).

Thanks! Steam and GOG both have FF, and at a steal of a price too! I hope you'll follow the mod and check it out when it is done!
