Welcome back, Cosmonarchs!
We're here to provide you with a Zerg-centric recap of recent changes and additions to Cosmonarchy. Some of these have already seen tournament play in the recent March Invitational B, while others are still awaiting their time in the limelight... but all of them are worth getting excited about!
ROSTER ADDITIONS -- CHOKRAL CHAZSAL:
After scouring the internet for... acceptable placeholder graphics, lead designer Pr0nogo was able to quickly fill in a long-awaited trio of endgame Zerg units.
Up first: the Cherbrathalor is a crowd-control artillery strain that evolves from the Kagralisk and features the Zerg cornerstone Crushing Tide, allowing it to target multiple enemies at once and granting each attack one bounce. This should allow for an additional siege option once the late-game arrives, and will complement the Kesakthalor, which by comparison can only target ground units.
The Okrimnilisk arrives as the de facto base buster for Zerg, and is evolved from the Evigrilisk. It lashes out against ground targets with mid-range tentacles, and launches its secondary weapon, Omnispores, at all targets within range -- all without needing to stop moving! This lumbering beast is more than capable of shrugging off small arms fire, and will take a considerable amount of pepper to put down.
Lastly, the Algoztalisk can be mutated from the Almaksalisk, and carries the single-target armor-piercing torch with its unique passive, Escape Velocity. This behavior grants increased armor penetration to this assault flyer's rapid-fire attacks based on distance travelled, which encourages hostiles to commit to fighting the creature in a similar fashion to the Geszithalor. Shout-out faktheking on our Discord server, who had wished for this unit ever since he joined us!
VISUAL UPDATE -- ZERG KALKALISK:
Courtesy of project contributor Solstice, we have a new modeled, animated, and rendered sprite for your eyes to enjoy! This time, the Kalkalisk enjoys a fresh coat of paint, with updated animations and a far more wiggly appearance overall. Here's a longer demonstration via this gif that's too big for ModDB.
While we're far from our pipe dream of replacing every graphic in the game, getting through some of these initial units is very heartening, and really goes a long way to making the project seem more coherent overall. Thanks again to Solstice for his many contributions!
Thank you for all that you've done, Solstice!
ROSTER UPDATES -- VILGOROKOR, ISTHRATHALETH
Let's talk about the Vilgorokor. This poor guy doesn't look so good, but while we wait for a replacement graphic, Pr0nogo went in and gave him a shiny new behavior: Reconstitution. As long as the unit isn't under a Carapace Swarm, it'll channel for a brief moment after taking damage, and release a protective field that's smaller than what the Isthrathaleth provides. It also absorbs less damage, but it's still quite handy for bringing melee units into the fray!
And then there's the small matter of the Vilgorokor now mutating directly into the Isthrathaleth, which will absolutely be a game-changer, as this iconic Zerg specialist was seldom-seen due to the high tech barrier it imposed. Incorporating Carapace Swarm into both units was a no-brainer to link them conceptually.
That's everything to report about Zerg in recent history! We hope you enjoyed checking out all there is to know about the latest round of alien updates.
