yeah, now it mostly new models, so it has minimal impact on the game
More likely there will be a teleport or smth to Middle Earth at least in the first stages.
The playable map can't be bigger then 4096x4096, thats in a quarter bigger than a Skyrim, maybe more. The map will cover a quad of Middle Earth with Moria and Lothlorien.
So, other Worldspaces with other parts of middle Earth could be build separatly. But I'll try to make patches (actually they are really big, Skyrim is not a small world) feel the whole.
About this worldspace - Moria is big, it should be about 9x5km in game, with different levels, different halls and chambers, watermills etc, so it should be itself a big world underground. Really big one. And more importantly looks like it is possible to make.
Almost finished the model of Balin's tomb. Huh, it is so small in the movie, looks like they really put the cameras to the corners of the chamber to make it feel bigger . But it is one of the greatest scenes in the movie, in my opinion, so I decided to model it exactly the same, to bring that feeling.
Modeling Chamber of Mazarbul. It would be long, maybe a week, then will be some screens.
More likely, that in this world space will be a part of Lothlorien. I'm gonna import 4096x4096 hightmap, it would be bigger than Skyrim in a quater, if I'm correct, so thats a hell of a job even with that size
had not too much time last few weeks, but however, I had a hard time with CK. The main thing is that now it is clear how to make the dungeon really big. Well and I tried to understand how to import the hightmap, looks like it is not so hard. It won't be the hightmap of the whole middleearth, only region of Misty mountains with Moria and a little part of Lothlorien maybe. I'll try to make it a little bit bigger than a playable Skyrim territory.
Cryengine is very powerfull and flexible engine, but it is simple to create FPS in SDK, but not an RPG. It is not impossible to make it, just like it is not impossible to make an orbital Death star.
About Skyrim - there is a CK, with all the possibilities it can provide in making RPG, and there is a Nexus full of interesting mods and stuff with a great community.
But yeah, when I first saw Skyrim's graphics, I thought "What the hell? Maybe there is smth wrong with my settings?". But now there are graphics mods, and, hey! there is ENBSeries - with proper settings it can provide graphics at least not bad! And blow up your computer of course.
Unfortunately, Skyrim is a little hard for modding, compared with Oblivion. For me at least. I mean, adding custom models is tricky, but still it is possible.
I had not much free time these two weeks, but, however, there is a progress, it is not about the modelling, but about the CK and game size standarts, and other important things, that should be clear until creating big structures. There are still some very important things to clear up, but eventually it is all that need to be done to prevent future problems.
Parallax works fine, if there is a light nearby, so it can be implemented in such locations as the Chamber of Mazarbul. Now got some problems with interior cell limitations, I asked about it in Beth forums yesterday, no replies yet. The 21st hall can be assembled huge, but it would be better to try make it bigger.
Yeah I spend all my free time doing this. Tried to find if parallax can work in interiors. Looks like it can be emplemented, but not in ambient light, it is visible only in omni lights. That means it would be only in optional locations, not everywhere.
Another little, but very nice thing is distructible stuff - that also took time to understand.
Actually there are a lot of things, that have been tested, not all of them seem too good for the mod, bud many are useful.
yep, but more likely it would be much more later
it shouldn't affect the lore of a game, so obviously the door to the dungeon should be somewhere far, maybe in the borderlands of Skyrim. Yeah, the door will be like in the movie, but I'm not sure that it would be in the first release.
About Barlog - yes, I'm going to ask a permission to use it.
Assembled the part of 21st hall as an interior in CK, just testing how it would look like. Seems that parallax doesn't work in the interiors. I have the latest version of enb, and damn, there is nothing! I'll try to fix that. Anyway, now working on different models, just different dwarven stuff for decoration. The hall is so big, there would be a lot of work to make it not so empty.
well, it should be very dangerous for them, they should think about their karma, espesially after what they did with MERP. Anyway it won't stop the project even in case of ban.
there is a lot of work with modelling now, and I don't know what problems will be in the future, but of course I'll try to avoid them. About other members of the fellowship - can't say now, but this is Moria of the time after Balin's death and when fellowship was created. Anyway, the main thing is to have the environment, then it would be time to think about quests, and smth other
Yes there are plans for quests and massive battles. But, the city is huge, and in near future there will be much to do with models.
I'm just planing continue with Moria, it was described really big, and I'll try to make it big. When some more places of Moria would be done, I'll upload everything, so you guys would be able to test it.
Haven't asked about it, still hope, that MERP progect will resurrect from the dead. And there is much to do with Moria.
Parallax here can't be seen but it looks really good on the floor, it is really bumpy
there is both double-handed version and one-hand. It is not so difficult to make it double or one-handed, the main problem is the model
replied in pm
Ok, so now it is time for walls. I heard there are problems with building such a huge structures in CK, but I'll try to make the hall as big as it was in a movie.
Yeah I'm planing to make other locations, it would be smth elven, Thranduil palace most likely. But Moria is so Huge. I tried to make a hall like in a movie, you know, just to feel the scale - it is really big, it would take a lot of time to make the Hall the proper way, and much more time to create other rooms. So, I can't tell smth certain about other locations, because now there is a lot to do with Moria.
As I finish modeling the Hall and maybe some chambers, I'll upload everything what I have.
finished with the tiled texture of the floor, parallax looks rather good, now creating the ceiling
Modelling floor of the Moria hall now. It was realy hard to recreate the pattern like in the movie, actually I even didn't know that there was a pattern, plus some problems with parallax. An update will be soon I hope.
Thanks a lot. Working on the next update now, that damn Moria floor.
Can't stop doing it, because wanna play. Yeah, alive and kicking! Yep, now I'm the only one. About Merp team models - I was one of the devs, and still doing my part of the job, so decided to concentrate on creating smth, that the progect hasn't. We hasn't much good useful models, that could be used in Moria, so now I got no need to use smth from the progect.
