I'm a longtime modder who has been on and off the scene for almost a decade. I started modding in 2000 starting off with Westwood Studios' Command and Conquer series. My first ever mod was a solo effort dubbed "Soviet Revenge" for Red Alert 2. Quickly after producing my first mod I met a team of the most skilled individuals I have ever worked with and lead development for a Red Alert 2 total conversion named "Warhammer 40k - Red Alert." With over 42,000 downloads this was by far the most successful and full-fledged mod I have been a part of. After the end of that mod and the decline of Command and Conquer: Red Alert 2 as a modding platform I've made minor mods for other games. My most current mod was Final Fantasy Tactics: Rebirth, a modification of the PSOne game Final Fantasy Tactics.
The Super Ultimate Portrait Pack is the successor to the original Ultimate Portrait Pack for Baldur’s Gate I & II (BGI & BGII). With the release of Baldur’s Gate: Enhanced Edition (BG:EE) all portrait sizes were slightly increased. If you resized older portraits formatted for the older BGI & BGII games it is likely they became blurry and hard to look it. To rectify this I created found all the source images and resized the original source images using Photoshop’s best algorithm for reduction. The end result was clear and detailed portraits. I attempted to convert all the most popular portraits from the original Ultimate Portrait Pack - however a few source images I was not able to find. Besides that I added tons of new portraits not in the last portrait packs. This add-on/mod contains 546 new portraits and re-crops of the Manley small portraits. Currently this mod only works with the PC (Beamdog release) version of BG:EE.
Hey, I got this just now and noticed that the small and medium are the same dimensions. The large and the medium worked but the small was too large, I tried to resize them to 54 by 84 and save them as .bmp but now no image is displayed. Any suggestions?
@Haskill
Is this for a particular portrait? I am unable to replicate the problem you are having.
Is it possible to make it Mac usable?
You will be able to download an unsupported ZIP version at:
Moddb.com
Will the zip file for mac users come out any time soon? Can't wait...

Awesome job!
So do i just download it or do i have to do some tricky stuff to enable the portraits?
If you have the normal Overhaul/Beamdog Windows version you can donwload and install without any further issues. If you have the STEAM, MAC, or Overhaul PRE-LOAD versions you will need to use the unsupported ZIP version: You will be able to download an unsupported ZIP version at:

Create a Folder in your BG: EE, Name it "Portraits" then extract the portraits in it.
Forum.baldursgate.com <= Here. :Sorry i thought this was the old BG One. :P
This pack will work by putting the portraits into your "Portraits" directory however it is really designed to utilize the BGEE.SQL file and have everything loaded into the "Override" directory.
Thank you very much.
does this add soundset because i have a lot of them and i did install them
so im freaking out a little
i forgot to add the not..........
This mod does not currently add any soundsets. It should not affect your soundsets at all.
This bugs the new v1.20 patch released.
For those using it and are attempting to play the latest version of BG:EE, go into your Portraits directory and delete the BGEE.SQL file that is bundled with this portrait package.
If I do that then the portraits don't work anymore. Any other fixes?
Go download the zip version:
Moddb.com
Go to your "documents" folder
- Go to "Start Menu"
- Go to "Documents"
- Look for a "Baldur's Gate - Enhanced Edition" or "Baldur's Gate II - Enhanced Edition" folder
- Open the BGEE or BGIIEE folder
- Right click
- Create a new folder and name it "portraits"
- Open the zip file you downloaded (ie the Portrait Pack)
- Open the override folder in the zip file
- Copy these image files into the new "portraits" folder you created
- You should now be able to use the custom portraits with no issue.
*They will simply show up in the custom section, they are named like
GENDER + RACE + CLASS + NUMBER + SIZE
GENDER = M or F
RACE = HU (Human) or DW (Dwarf) or HE (Half Elf) etc
CLASS = CL (Cleric) or FI (Fighter) etc
NUMBER = self explanatory
SIZE = L/M/S
Select the medium or large one for the large portrait. Select the small one for the small portrait. I will get around to make them function like normal portraits at some point but the patches have made significant changes to how the game handles portraits and I have not updated them.
After some fiddling I managed to get the portrait pack to work for BGII EE". Make a folder named "Portraits" in the "\Documents\Baldur's Gate II - Enhanced Edition" and then copy everything from "\Super Ultimate Portrait Pack\Data0766\override" into the New Documents\Baldur's Gate II - Enhanced Edition\Portraits\" directory.
This is largely correct, please see above if you are having any issues or need instructions more thoroughly spelled out.
Hi there,
Had to uninstall it because it gave problems while starting the game. Perhaps this is due to the 1.2 patch and the mod may require a newer version?
Thanks ;)
Guest,
This is correct the 1.2 patch broke my mod. A new update may be in the works. Please use the instructions above if you want to use the portraits as custom portraits.
I had problems installing this for Steam. You are better off downloading the .zip version BUT if you download the installer you can manually move the OVERRIDE directory (the 0076 directory does not appear to be used for Steam) and place it in your \Program Files (x86)\Steam\Steamapps\Common\Baldur's Gate: Enhanced Edition directory.
yea this doesn't work at all.
Correct, version 1.2 and BG2EE updated BGEE.SQL rendering a mass amount of errors. This mod may be updated.
Thank you very much Rodman49
When I open save the file to my PC, it is showing as a "File" type of file, which I believe means unknown file type. There is no option when downloading to choose file type. How do I get this to download as a Zip file?
Hey there! The portraits look great, but I am having an issue. I make my character, go to play, and it crashes before the game actual starts. I get an error saying the compiler cannot find the time received on column quests. It worked before I added this, and I'm not sure why this would make a difference. I have a windows 8, 64 bit pc. Downloaded this from beamdog. Any ideas?
Hi! I REALLY want this portrait pack, and I'm just making sure,it WILL work for Baldur's Gate II EE, won't it?
how to uninstall? broke my game after install.
I can't get them to work. I can see the files in windows explorer and open them individually, but the portraits don't show up in-game after installation.
This is NOT working. I tried the installer, nothing. I tried copying the files to the newly-made portraits path, nothing. They simply do not show up in the game. WHAT GIVES?
Love this pack, was looking for better portraits than the games and this helped so much thank you
Is there any way to get these for the original bg2? I noticed some really cool ones that werent in the original pack.
Thanks mate, this saves me a lot of effort for digging up avatars, really appreciate it
