Report RSS Source modding community - Not ruined (yet)

Posted by on

Alright, i must admit it. Maybe i was wrong back when i said the whole modding scene would be burried like a body, when the Steampipe update hit.
Surprisingly, that hasn't happened, and i have recently played two newly released mods. One even for the older Source 2007 base.

It seems that those forsaken are not people making mods, but those who do more simple things, such as reskins, and models for the exsisting games.
I still cannot see how some people actually like this horrible idea of that EVERYTHING must be inside a VPK to even be loaded by the game.
I had to make a special setup for Source SDK (just update it already, goddamn it Valve) to even be able to compile models, and then view them in the Model viewer.

Yet some people making these reskins like VPK. Strange, i wonder what i'm missing. I suppose there is a way to test your models ingame without packing them up.
But atleast, the community is not dead yet. Mods are still being made, and released. So that is a good sign.

In other news, Valve has begun announcing tons of different SteamOS (Linux based) 'machines' i got no idea at the given time, what these may be. I suspect they will be something in the lines of the Steam Box.
I don't feel alot like i care, I just spent 560€ on upgrading my PC. (My old CPU got his ass handed to him, Yarhar! ) And i really don't wanna go out and spent a load of dosh on a piece of technology that i can put in my living room, so i can sit in my couch and play.

Personally, my biggest worry is that Gabe would make Steam Linux only... I felt like punshing myself for just thinking that, but seriously, that would of been the biggest ass move ever. So, lets hope SteamOS will satisfy him and his new Linux fetish (I have nothing against Linux, it sounds to be an ingenious OS.)

And there another Blog of hidious time wasting goes.

And thus Valve broke the Source SDK for no reason.
Say, their new motto should be "If it ain't broken, let's break it!" because that's exactly what they do.
