I've been at it for about 2 weeks now here and there. I'm doing my best to not force the game - I've been letting it come to me. So the last few days I've been really laying down the groundwork for the gameplay, rather than laying down fun things then building a game around them.
New Recently
- First I made our pet "Byte" he is named for now. He basically follows you around and attacks any enemy that comes near you. I also gave the player the ability to place a point for Byte to move to. So now you can actually say "go get 'em boy!" and he'll go get em! Byte has a health bar as well now. This Gif sums it up pretty well.
- Enemies have HP; it sounds pretty basic but I was debugging the really basic behavior by having enemies just die immediately when hit. Now each bite/swordslash do 1 HP damage and the basic "Hate Slugs" I call them - have 2 HP.
- Music! There's music. It's really retro styled, I like it. Gathered it from one of my favorite websites Opengameart.org
- Enemies drop gold, the gold scatters, the gold can be collected, the gold is displayed now with a nice little HUD which I made myself. This is that HUD. Gold will be used to buy upgrades and items in the towns you visit.
- The player can now DIE - Basic stuff, comes with a neat animation. When the player dies you are booted back to the map - when the doggy dies it's just a sad day for all parties involved. I'll be sure to add a "Revive my wolf" item - and you can buy it for 0.99 or something... Just kidding hahahahaah! How BS would that be?? Especially because this won't be an app.
- I added an indicator bar on the right of the screen to show the player how much "Lingering Hatred" there is left in the area -- side note; that's the title of the game, I've settled on that. It doesn't tell you exactly how many enemies are left, and the larger enemies will represent a larger portion of that bar.
- Healing by the camp fire. If you're injured in battle - don't fret. Just get some rest! Nothing cures stab wounds or chemical burns like a bit of fireside rest and relaxation!
- As of today - Areas can be "Completed" and that was a nice little system of a bunch of variables talking to each other.
Anyway - my wife went to bed and I have to poo so we'll call it a day - thanks for reading. More to come for sure in the following days!
