Ten years before the story begins, a terrible earthquake hit Japan and destroyed much of the capital, Tokyo, sinking three-quarters making it into the ocean. In the present, we see Igarashi Ganta, a seemingly ordinary boy, middle school student at the Nagano Prefecture.
