There are thousands of mods out there, but only a handful of them is good. But how can you differ a great mod from a troll? Well, at first you should look up the videos and pictures the developers uploaded. If you like what you see, then get it, don't care about the comments from other users. Those comments can be pretty helpful, too, but the most improtant think at first is how you think about it.
Now I want to introduce you to some of my favourite mods: I won't count the bought mods on steam to this, just because I think everybody should know them by now. Let's start with "The Hidden: Source". It's a fun multiplayer game, and while there were no updates for like a year, there is still a community playing this mod. There are 2 teams: IRIS, a military network to catch the Hidden, and the Hidden himself. The IRIS Network has to kill the Hidden with their weapons, while the Hidden only has a knife, one stun grenade and can throw objects. BUT, like his name says, the Hidden is hidden. You can't spot him very easily, he's nearly invisible. The Hidden is able to climb walls and leap over great distances, which makes the game very amazing. You should try it out if you are not scared too fast...
Next is the SMOD-Series. Alright, there are plenty of... SMOD mod's... but a few of them are awesome, like SMOD: Tactical. Makes Half-Life 2 worth palying through again. Check it out!
One of my absolutley all-time-faves is Modular Combat. It's like a RPG, but in the style of HL2. Find weapons, kill spawning enemies, earn exp and get lvl-up's to spend new points in new abilities, like more dmg, spawning minions or using a jetpack. Beside that, the developer still uploads patches for this game to add more abilities and "bug it out". At least give it a try if you like First-Person-RPG.
There are many other mods I like, for example Neo Tokyo, Decadence or GraviNULL, and a few HL1 mods too, like Zombie Edition or Azure Sheep. But I won't mention them here, because I prefer other mods instead of those. That does NOT mena I don't play them anymore!
So, stay tuned for the next entry in a few weeks when I tested out new mods, and track upcoming hotsh!t's like HypernovA for HL1 or Nightmre House 2 for HL2.
I just visited your profile to see if you made any mods/games, and I read this post. Thanks!
No problem^^ I just want to help new ppl who don't know much about modding. For myself, I can say that I don't know anything about coding, mapping or moddeling, but I know the finished mods and beta-tested a huge amount of them.
